It was sort of a gag. I originally had a ton of barrels where I stored everything myfrom my quarry but then I switched it to DSU's. He commanded me to make one for every minecraft resource... I went with it as a joke. It's true I can use ME disks for storing everything but there were so many steps just to make one high end disk that I preferred the simplicity of the DSU's. This way i can store crafted stuff on the ME harddrives and my resources in the DSU's. I am pretty short on quartz at the moment too, but I may switch back to more harddrive space after I quarry some more...

If you are already using AE it is pretty easy to set it up to auto-craft any size cell you want. And there are actually relatively few steps if you do them all at one time (I am in 1.4.7 so I have fabricators do them for me in the early game anyway, so that helps a lot for me).

That being said, DSU's are great too, and given how much you have of some of that stuff it apparently wasn't the worst idea ever. :)

Lost as always
DSU's and Storage Buses work phenomenally well together. In an earlier revision, there was a slight problem with a basic storage bus not loading into or out of the DSU properly, but that got cleared up long ago.

My first four DSU's are Cobble, Dirt, Sand, and Gravel. Keeps them from cluttering up my disk space.

I have a bunch of them hooked up to storage buses already and I was setting each of them by placing a block in the bus, but I played around and it seems that the system automatically tries to add items to the DSU's without the storage bus being set. So far I have been able to pull stuff out of the DSU through the ME terminal and place it back in and they always go back to their prospective DSU even though half of the storage buses are not set at all. Since it can only hold one item anyway it just puts all the items in can in the DSU appropriate for it by default...

I may be mistaken and have just been lucky, but seems to be working that way for me right now...

I kind of went overboard and started using them for ores and ingots and all kinds of random stuff that I had more than a barrel worth. I may be using a lot more energy on it then I should but I love the use of one block for accessing all my stuff... ME organization is just too good to not take advantage of for my way of playing...

That works, but if you ever completely empty out a DSU and the Storage Bus isn't set to a specific item, something else might get dumped in there instead.

Thanks for the tip. I kind of figured that would be the case, but considering that most of them hold thousands of resources I am not too worried about actually emptying them. Still, it may be worth taking the time to set them in the storage bus just in case... :)

I don't like to use those expensive cells, so I use DSU+diamond chest combo and connect them up to network.
Cells are cool but physical storage and assess to them are also cool
