i am considering about purchasing a dedicated server and now i am a little worry about the bandwidth usage. The mod pack i am going to install is FTB Unleashed.
How much bandwidth do i need to hold for about 20 players.
Is 3 TB bandwidth enough?

I hit over 3TB with ~20 on consistently. Mods like MPS add a ton of packets and information. Compared to vanilla modded uses about 10-50x more per player.

you hit over 3 Terabytes of bandwith on a minecraft server... I highly doubt this.

1MB/s for a month is 2.7 TB.

Edit: Not to mention doing any remote backups will add a ton more on-top of that.

Necro...

I really didn't see an answer for this on the forums. But I was looking at a KS1 from OVH to do some hosting. However, they have a 5TB per month limit on the bandwidth. Any ideas what a 10 player FTB server (Unleashed) would actually use over an entire month?

10 players at 150kBps each is 1.5mBps.

1.5mBps x 60 seconds = 90mB per minute

90mB x 1440 minutes per day = 129600mB per day

129600mB x 30 day per month = 3888000mB = 3888gB = 3.8tB

These leaves you about 1.2tB per month to manage the server and copy backups to your computer or another server. You have more spare bandwidth for backups if not all ten players are online 24/7/365. If you mean 10 slots then I would expect you to use half of the amount I quoted at maximum.

Please note the difference between b and B.

b = bits

B = bytes

8 bits = 1 byte

Just checked my server then and it's currently averaging around 10-15kBps per player. Just for comparisons sake back in around January when I was running a Mindcrack Server that was using around 50kBps per player, the current players/maps are no more advanced than they were back then.

But over the past with around 20-60 regular players on at various times throughout the day, I think the most I've used in one month was around 150GB

Bandwidth is cheap in the US/EU so you shouldn't have much of an issue, just use something like dstat or vnstat and keep an eye on what you are actually using.

Thanks for the help.. I decided to buy the KS1 server. Turns out if I do need a bump I can an additional TB for $7.

Nice choice on the Kimsufi, I have a KS2 and the CPU power improvements just blow crappy Minecraft VPS hosts out of the water, even with somewhat of a low-end CPU.
