I've been playing tekkit and voltz for quite some time now, for let's plays if you're interested and i'm starting up on FTB, however i've almost no experience in it, i know that it is in many ways very similar to tekkit but in my short perusals of the mods i'm seeing quite a bit more magic, most interestingly in thaumcraft 3.

basically i was hoping that some more experienced among you might be able to just give me some suggestions for the more interesting goals i might pursue in order to have a different experience to tekkit, because i've really done all that now, on and off of Youtube.

i do have some experience with Thaumcraft for example, as it was a part of technic, which i've played before, but i still never got very fat and i understand that TC2 (which was in technic) is quite different to TC3 (of FTB), so basically that's that, I look forward to some good responses

complete all thuamcraft research. have functional MK V IC2 reactor. have frame quarry. have giant frame ship base. get all the forestry bees. automate everything.
try these, the're interesting challenges.

what pack are you going to use. if you want easy, go with DW20, if you want hard, go with MindCrack

in addition to the frame ship have one with a detachable pod with an arcane bore on the bottom (active) (this looks like a tractor beam)

umm, i hadn't thought about it too hard, probably mindcrack in that case though, how is it "harder"

a good challenge is to work towards replacing mining with bees :)

alright now that sounds interesting, definately looking into that one

Unfortunately it's hardly feasible. I have some very good rusty bees and not only do they produce very few iron combs, those combs also don't net 100% iron. It's nice and fun and all, but for the amount of copper and iron you need bees aren't much of a replacement.

Then you don't have enough of them. ;)

i can't imagine bee farming to be particularly quick or efficient but none the less it's still pretty damn interesting, and i'm all for making big ass farms to compensate for that

if you want to do bees quickly, I know of a website with all the breeding requirements for the bees, if you want it ill post it.
warning there are spoilers!

spoilers? i'm not too sure i understand, but it's alright, i'll figure it out for myself, it'll be more fun that way

Well, it has a mod Gregtech, which is awesome but is infamous for making some other things a bit more difficult. I like it, though I've seen a lot of criticism of it. For instance, in its current form, Mass Fabricators are replaced by Matter Fabricators which are a lot harder to get and need a lot more energy, Macerators require 3(!) Diamonds to make, and Solar Panels require some fairly advanced stuff to create. Specifically, an Industrial Centrifuge and an Industrial Blast Furnace.

spoilers as in it tells you how to breed every bee, some consider it spoilers

I can see how that might be considered a bummer, discovery is fun!

daaaayum, 3 diamonds for a macerator is quite something but it's pretty fair really, i like the solar panel change too, they're a little bit easy by default

Basically, the changes gregtech makes to a bunch of mods draws out the length of the game. A lot are harder (solar panels), some are easier (multiple circuit recipes), and many become multi-step processes. You can get massive amounts of EU from a bucket of fuel in a diesel generator (384k), but it is trickled out at 8eu/tick. You can also get methane from a variety of products, but with eu production, it costs 25k eu to make it, and generates 45k eu. So it only nets 20k eu. Not a lot of energy. Anything that seems mildly exploitable gets nerfed in the next version.

I have heard reports that on some mindcrack servers even a month in, almost no one had quantum suits yet. With normal IC2, It's easy to get them in a couple days of play time.

In a DireWolf20 video I saw today, he said binnie made the bees so they wouldn't replace mining. DW20 had copper bees going for 24 hours, and he only got 19 copper out of it.
I would recommend picking a particular mod in the pack and going with it alone. You can normally get along well enough in a single mod (or two) without hurting for resources, then start branching out to the other mods as you get more established. Many recommend starting with Thermal Expansion and Thaumcraft 3. Thermal expansion gives some early ore processing options to double your ore output, and thaumcraft 3 can be started rather easily with just some wood and paper. Since you need to gather resources to research items, you can do that while you mine and farm and explore the world. You can complete all the research without making a single thaumcraft item other than a wand, a research table and a thauminomicon.
