A hopefully atypical response to the addition of the brony modpack.

Sorry I misread your OP. I can see how having 20+ mod packs selectable would be a problem. However, we don't currently have enough for it to be a problem. The FTB team has been so good about identifying issues and adding features that it would surprise me to not find something like a favorites tab well before we hit the colossal-modpack-makers-puked-in-our-launcher level.

As to the MLP whinging, I will say that my 7 year old's excitement when I told her there would be a MLP pack is all the defense for its inclusion I need. If it really upsets you to simply see the name for the 3 seconds it takes to launch your preferred pack, then you need to become more secure in your manhood.

My 10 year old girl loves playing multiplayer with me every now and then. If she wants ponies, she get's ponies, and now she can get it without me spending large amounts of our precious father/daughter time on the technicalities of making the mod's work together. For me that is just pure win.

It's hilarious how some people are offended just by having the option of a pony pack.

Mmmm horsemeat.

BBQ FTW. :D

My sentiments, exactly.

REAL problem is that Brohoof server only has 4 guest slots, and they are always occupied.

Given the subject of this topic and the existence of a male fandom, that isn't a guaranteed immunity.
True, true ... I understand the risks, thus the winky. :)

What I mean is I'm glad I have these particular boys. I think ... they've surprised me in the past.

Never assume anything when it comes to your children. They tend to hide their real preferences if those seem to be in conflict/opposition with their parents preferences.
That changes when they become teens tho... when they are teens they tend to "like" anything their parents hate, and vice versa.

Ponies aside (tiny brony here, myself), the basic tenets of what you say are at least something worth remembering. But is it prominent or important today? The few packs there are and the few that are in the near future don't scream "unorganized sh*tload of modpacks in mah launchah!" so I think, its not a problem right now. Once (if) the FTB launcher gets beyond one or two dozen modpacks it sure is early enough to think about some sort of filter, or, as was suggested an "available / installed" tab. Or even reduce the overview to a mere list of available modpacks with a "Show me the details" button plaed somewhere in the launchers window. Ponies back in: You do know you opened a little pandora's box by choosing the PonyPack as "teh offending pack", don't you? (note: I do know that you did in fact NOT do such a thing - but knowing the internet.. I'm just afraid within two pages nobody cares about it anymore - of course, this depends on the amount of MLP fans frequenting this board^^).

PS @ FivEven:
[...] I was a bigger fan of Kim Possible. Does this make me a Brossible?
This made me laugh in real life. <3

I think OP and haters just need to be locked in a room with Pinkie Pie on a sugar high for 24 hours. :D

I have a daughter that loves MLP. I watch a few episodes. Show's actually pretty well written and it's a modpack LAUNCHER for as many modpacks as the FTB crew feels like adding. I expect at LEAST more than 20 packs eventually!

Quite frankly, any thought about the absurdity of hating the idea of a launcher having any mention of MLP without one ever needing to look at it twice is a most silly proposition by all actual powers of reason. Don't like it? Don't use it! :p

I fail to see what gender has to do with cartoons, but maybe I am just new fashioned, this mod does not interest me personally but I think it has just as much right to be there as any other pack. The more packs that are here the better if you ask me, scrolling is not that hard.

Seriously.. this thread is symptomatic of the major problem with American society today.

If somebody sees something they don't like they try and get it banned and removed.

For example- an atheist sees a cross on display in public and screams 'they are trying to FORCE religion on me' and sues to get it removed.

We as a society have forgotten freedom of speech is not the same as freedom from being offended.

If you see something you don't like- ignore it and move on it's not hurting anybody to have a pony item in a list of other items.

Erm, you didn't just go there, did you? You do realize it isn't in public that is the problem, but on public land.

Yeah, expecting the lock any second now.

Yeah.. right.. because the thread hasn't been locked in the 9.5 hours since I posted that?

You can disagree with the statement all you want, it was just an example and I'm not going to go off topic to discuss it here.

It is flame bait as far as I am concerned. Just because most of us "Evil" Atheist know better than to take the bait don't mean we don't find it offensive. o_O
I also believe in your right to free speech. I don't do censorship myself, even if I do find something offensive.
Anyhow offensive examples or not. the original point stands. And it's not only Americans that tend to overplay the offended victim card. it's endemic all over the world.
I won't name examples, because i can't without it being offensive to anyone.

Ironically, you proved my point- hoping (expecting) this thread gets locked because somebody posted an opinion you disagree with.

This whole premise of this thread is a troll IMO to begin with.

Maybe people are irritated about the MLP because we don't have the ULTIMATE pack or others (hinted at, promised, or however you want to look at it) from the FTB team. I was shocked to see it and was kinda irritated for the split second it took me to realize this is a THIRD PARTY PACK created by a THIRD PARTY TEAM that supports FTB. So now I just ignore it.

However, the suggestion (don't remember who made it and looking smacks of effort) to add a tab which includes the pack's you've DL'd is a great idea. Like tony the Tiger great!!

Where do i state that i expect or even desire that this thread be locked?
What part of not condoning censorship entails censoring others?

I don't know if i made my message clear enough, but i tried to state that i agree with your on topic point of people being overly whiny about stuff they don't like.
I also pointed out that you used a bad example, one that is guaranteed to make some people angry. anything about beliefs always do this, hence why i called it flamebait.

And yes. this whole thread is trollish, and most of the responses have been either levity, more trolling, or directly off topic.
I'm under the impression that mod's on this board tend to ignore anything that isn't directly abusive. I'm sure they will be watching closely tho, and I refuse to be baited into discussing this particular off topic path any further. I know how that kind of thing usually ends. I don't care enough to go "there" as some would say. not on a gaming forum.

I'm getting the urge to get my flying monkeys. They use catapults. Catapults with Gauss and jumpjets.

Personally, it'll be more fun to twirl noodles in a corner while singing off key than see this thread continue. o_O
