I'm trying to make a 1.7 skyblock pack using forced garden of glass world gen, you literally have no other world gen options except garden of glass. And you have to use Botania to start your progression

pack code: Madness

Pack Description:
The World Tree has died, and with it the entire world crumbled to dust and returned to the void. All that is left are the dying roots of the World Tree and the dirt in which they rest. Can you use the remnants of the World Tree to create a new world? Use your knowledge of plants and agriculture to cultivate a new world, rediscover the lost technologies of the old world, and create a new World Tree.

Garden of Madness is a Garden of glass based skyblock. You must be careful and not waste resources because it's possible to lose this pack and force you to restart. In this harder progression driven skyblock everything stems from Botania and Agricraft. While the progression isn't very deep, each tier of progression adds many new possibilities for your growing world.

Other notes about the pack:

You will not start with a tree, but don't worry you can make a sapling with the starting blocks.

As this is garden of glass you have easy access to cobble if you just punch dirt with your right mouse while shifting.

Speaking of cobble try the Better Chest cobble gen upgrade, it's a faster easier way to make an automatic cobble gen.

Death to AE2. It's over used and over relied on. And no amount of nagging will get it in the pack.

Current mods:
Agricraft
Ancient Warfare
Better Builder's Wands
Better Chests
Blood Magic
Botania (and Garden of Glass)
Buildcraft
Buildcraft Additions
Deep Resonance
Ender IO
Ender Storage
Essential Craft
Eureka
Extra Utilities
iBench
Immersive Engineering and Integration
Logistics Pipes
Mekanism (with generators and tools addons)
Mine Factory reloaded
Natura
Nuclearcraft
Pam's Harvestcraft
Progressive Automation
Quantum Flux
Storage Drawers (with Natura addon)
Thermal Foundation (for ores and metals only)
Tree Growing Simulator
Veinminer
and a few other small ones

Includes a few tweaks for a skyblock world and custom progression.

EnderIO is something that I'd want to see in a sky block pack, but no TE, I feel like it's overused.

... EIO already is in it. lol I thought the ease of access early game and the ability to put all your pipes and wires in a single block space was extremely valuable to skyblock. And I did leave out Thermal Expansion because I also felt it was over used, so say hello to Mekanism.

Though I'm hoping people will use Minefactory reloaded laser drills and Mekanism 5x as a super effective material processing in the late game when they have the power supply to have multiple drills and max speed elite processing :D It would be a faster and far better setup than the standard 30 auto sieves and smeltery for late game

That sounds cool.

I'm trying to make a 1.7 skyblock pack using forced garden of glass world gen, you literally have no other world gen options except garden of glass. I have all the usual mods for acquiring materials, and some tech mods for automation. And I even have some magic mods sprinkled in.

But my question is what mods would you like to see in a sky block? My goal is to make this a community suggestion pack. The only guideline is the suggested mod must be public, I will not go out of my way to request perms.

Current mods:
Botania
Garden of Glass
Ender IO
Mekanism
Mine Factory Reloaded
Ancient Warfare
Ex Nihilo (and addons)
Extra Utils
Immersive Engineering, and Integration
Logistics Pipes
Quantum Flux
Essential Craft3
Agricraft
Build craft
Big Reactors
Blood Magic
and a few other small ones
I really like Progressive Automation for early game stuff - while it will easily be outstripped by other mods later, in a skyblock map where a bit of automation goes a long way, having a basic farm, crafting etc you can set up early to get you some stuff while you're working on other things is invaluable.

Suggestion accepted! I like your idea for early game boosting, and just as I did with my Final Frontier pack i will buff the hell out of it in the configs :D

-edit-
In fact this gives me an idea, what If I add in steve's minecarts and rail craft for early-mid game automation that looks cool as well. I don't think i've seen many rail systems in skyblocks

perhaps RF tools for storage?

Sure I could do that, but I'll have to disable the dimensional tools for obvious reasons.

That also fits nicely in with my FAVORITE kind of wither farm, the RF Tools Spawner and Mekanism Laser set to loop, it's the fastest and easiest way to farm withers :D

Oddly enough, I kinda want to see reika's ReactorCraft get into a skyblock somehow. Preferably in order to create expensive items with tons of power (similar to how you have to use tons of power to make an AE2 system in Infinity Expert)

See, now this is a bit genius right here :D Although Reika doesn't allow tweaking of his recipes to make them more expensive themselves (gating the building of them to later in the game like the AE2 wrench did), the amount of resources you need and the power they generate would probably make them late-game regardless!

While I do like this idea, I'm going to have to decline. There are already 2 kinds of reactors in the pack big reactors and the mekanism reactor. Big reactors are nice and I've gated them by not making the yellorium seiveable, and the Mekanism reactor is gated by the need for a massive infrastructure needed to already exist to even start one. I think I'm going to power my personal worlds with the Mekanism reactors as they are insane, they can put out more power than several nether star gens.

Also it's against my personal policy to use non-public mods.

witchery is also always nice, however seeing as there are plenty of kitchen sink skyblocks it may be better to stay fairly lightweight(to ease FPS problems for those of us that play on a toaster)

Don't stress yourself declining. The original posted question is "what would you like to see in a skyblock" not "what mods should I add to my skyblock"

I'm just answering that question. Its an interesting thought experiment of sorts, and it encourages discussion. By "declining" mods, you're disrupting conversation. (I'm half-joking: you should probably re-word the title of the thread if you really don't want open discussion)

Ya "a certain awkwardly tasting breakfast pastry" come to mind for kitchen sink skyblock with extremely over used mods XD

While some mods were a necessary evil to jsut make the pack even viable, I'm trying to use mods I haven't seen too much in skyblocks as a general base, like Mekanism, blood magic, Logistics pipes, and Ancient warfare. And taking community suggestions for extra fun things to do in the sky :D

I see your point, but it really is more about what things people want to see in a skyblock. I just have a personal issue with non-public mods. but feel fre to suggest anything the core is already setup it just needs flavor XD

on the whole overused mods thing, ex nihilo is not actually 'necessary'(though it DOES ease the early game) provided we have infinite water you can actually forgo it and make people use botania for ores if i remember correctly

That is true, hmmm, if I remove ex nihilo all together that would make the run time a LOT longer and would severely gate Mekanism as Osmium is it's back bone and then could only be obtainded later, and I see Mekanism as the top tier tech in this pack since it's highly upgradeable.

This might be the way to go, I'll have to tweak the early game setup a bit so it's not unbearable, but I like the idea of it. A harder, more progression oriented Sky block, LOVE IT.

Which is the breakfast pastry? :)

I like the call on Mekanism - that cropped up on Regrowth, and it was only through watching LPs that I realised just how much there IS to it! :D

Honestly, I think you could drop Big Reactors right out of there. You'll have enough with Agricraft (for the plants) and Immersive Engineering to have a great mid-range power supply, and at high level you've got Mekanism to cover the later game!

I LOVE Logistics Pipes, I think that combined with Storage Drawers can be very nice. I'd be tempted to gate MFR in some way, perhaps through Mekanism's plastic to make the plastic sheets? As it does make some things awfully easy, and the Mining Laser makes resource gathering very simple. Mind you, Agricraft's resource crops can do that as well! There probably won't be any reason for people to use the IE Excavator, but I thought I'd give it honourable mention as it DOES work in skyblocks apparently!

Oh think about this, Logistics pipes work with the Quantum Flux Storehouse which holds 999 stacks in a single block for super compact storage rooms.

And while the Mining lasers are a bit OP, if I remove big reactors then you will have a harder time keeping them powered without a mekanism reactor or a good existing power infrastructure.

you could probably replace big reactors with deep resonance, its about the same difficulty level for base power, but actually takes work for tons of power, AND has actual consequences if you cut corners
