The vanilla minecraft entities have been horrible to me in 1.7.10. On server restart, everything is fine, but TPS quickly drops below 10 and keeps dropping down to about 3-4.
According to opis, entities generate 20ms of lag, with vanilla entities generating about 14-15 of that.

My server is absolutely unusable in this state :(
I've mentioned this on a different thread, but I wonder if the performance problem isn't caused by 1.7, but by Forge. I have noticed that my computer's performance drops with only Forge installed.

Ask Opis to "purge chunks". Performance degradation is often associated with chunks that are not properly unloaded (also called "chunk leaking"). This happens a lot on Forge servers, probably associated with mods like Thaumcraft that do stuff all over the world whether you use it or not.

This isn't a 1.7.x issue, it happened in 1.6.x just as much. Using Cauldron (MCPC+) prevents this from happening in the first place (among other performance improvements).

Ditto. The Mooshroom cows are out of control. There were close to 1,000 of them in a brand-new world !

I used ExUt's command:

/xu_killliving

It helped a little bit.

How many chunks on average does a player load in while standing still?
Because the amount of chunks loaded rises quite quickly the longer the server is on. Purging the chunks unloads them for a brief second, then they all load back in.

Problem is that I don't have masses of entities. About 30-40 creepers cause about 4ms of lag.
