Does geographical location have any real impact? Should I be looking for a UK based server instead of a USA server?

Hi all. It's literally been months since I was on here, and indeed since I last played MC at all. I bought a server for my family and friends, but it didn't seem to get much use. Since then, my life took a bit of a sideways step. But I'm back, and wondering if your server is still up and...

Right... I've just selected my client to run on 1.1.2 That's made it work again, but doesn't answer the question of how to update the server.

I've just done exactly the same thing. I hope someone knows how to fix this.

That's a bit of a stumbling block. I'm sure Minecraft and FTB will still be going strong by the time she gets one.

That will remain the world's best ever excuse to play games with the kids!! Sounds like the circle of life there. I'm please I started this thread, for that very reason. I'm glad it's not just me being "sad" (as some would say). I love spending/wasting hours playing Minecraft.

Got my new server. Intel i5. 8GB RAM. 120GB SSD. Win7 64bit with Java 7 64bit. I've changed the values in the batch file to -Xms1G -Xmx4G. Is that the right thing to do?

11pm? But that's not even close to next day? That's terrible!! Set my server up last night. Let some mobs chase me. They didn't sprint. Broke some blocks. They didn't reappear. So far so good. I'll let the kids loose on it over the weekend and they can hopefully confirm that it was money well...

Hi, I'm Indie. Indie Structible. Or Tom to my family and friends. I was born 44 years ago and live with my two daughters aged 13 and 15 (I'm a single parent). Because of this, I've managed to turn my youngest into a little geek. My eldest... not so much. She's into boys and music, but still...

That's usually the case lol. But not last night. It's still laggy. But fear not, my new server arrives today! :)

That's an excellent game :) I've just finished a 4 hour game of Carcassonne (I'm a board game geek too) and wondering if I should jump into FTB now. It's 20 past midnight!! Maybe just for 5 minutes, to wind down before bed.

I'm fortunate (in some respects) that I'm a single parent. Just me and my kids. So I don't need to justify all the time I spend playing. However, the kids aren't so lucky. Homework, meals, room tidying, fresh air, bedtimes, etc. It's great being an adult (and still a child ;))

If you're mostly playing on your own, you could spend time creating an adventure map. Just a thought. I'm thinking about it :)

I thought I'd done something wrong when I installed FTB, but after joining this forum I found out that FTB is really resource hungry. You could try one of the smaller mod packs, with fewer mods than say Unleashed or Unhinged. See how that goes.

That's excellent. Well done for doing that. I can't say much more, as I'm not a child psychologist, but that can only be a good thing (unless all they do is grief!) :(
