It doesn't crash... It launches fine, with no errors. The problem is that it uses the wrong version of Java!

What? I have literally no idea what you are saying... It's likely not an issue with minecraft or it's libraries, because it runs with jre 7 with the normal minecraft launcher, with identical mods etc. I don't think it's an issue with 8.1, I believe it occurred with 8 as well.

Launching an FTB pack from the FTB launcher uses the 64 bit Java 6, not 7. I am using Windows 8.1 Pro, 64 bit. Launching from the vanilla minecraft launcher uses the correct version.

If you are going to use a picture similar to the one you have in the mock-up now, I'd suggest using optifine to add mip-mapping and anti-aliasing, so it looks better. Alternatively, you could port the world into some sort of 3D modelling tool to make it much better looking.

Based on what eloraam has said about volcanos, they spawn above lava lakes, not create them. She has repeatedly stated that they are going to become smarter with placement and what-not, but the only way they spawn is with a lava lake.
