I was just trying to make stone gears in 1.2.7 and they don't want to craft. I did the compressed cobble recipe, then tried double/triple/quadruple and nothing. I made snow into snow clumps and cobblestone pipes into stone pipes, so it's not a bugged anvil or hammer. Any ideas?

The nooks work, but the glowstone torches have a smaller light range than torches. I've been using redstone since it has the same at the normal torches and it's fairly common.
