Whats wrong with 1.7? It adds awesome new mods, like RFtools, which i think is WAY more balanced than mystcraft, considering it requires power, AE is better, Thaumcraft is amazing, Why wouldn't you want a 1.7 world? They are epic and amazing. So honestly i can't see your motivation on choosing...

if i were you i'd make a TiCo XP farm, get the mob essence in an open blocks tank, and use a shower to put it through a sewer, which converts it to mob essence. I do it like that all the time, and its really good even if its just a 5 by five of the stuff, faster too.

well you can also use a diamond or emerald(do the math to see which one's more effective) and it'll help
