Can't you just put any steel tools into an ordinary furnace to get the steel ingots back? I couldn't deal with the need to have a Blast Furnace to make an Industrial Blast Furnace so I explored dungeons for steel.

I have noticed NEI is much faster at retrieving uses for materials. I think you could add that to a change for it.

If you want all of the mods watch generikb and Etho. They are amusing, technical and explain how and how not to do things! Also, Etho uses the old fashioned, RailCraft approach which I think, is a lot more enjoyable to watch because it takes away the simplicity of Ender Storage.
