    Flat challenge, anyone?

Copper, Tin, Thaumium and Steel are metals I have found in Blacksmith/Thaumcraft chests in villages. You might have to visit many villages though to find all of them in sufficient quantities. Another route would be Thaumcraft transmutes, although you'll need to trade for some shards to make a...

    Flat challenge, anyone?

Passive mobs should spawn, I've found sheep, pigs and cows for certain, maybe some chickens (don't remember). Squid won't spawn without some effort, since they need water source blocks at y ~ 45-62. So you'll have to build an elevated pool for them to spawn at all.

    Flat challenge, anyone?

Wow, I'm so frickin blind... I must've looked at the chart a million times and haven't realized glass was on there. Thanks for pointing it out :)

    Flat challenge, anyone?

Nice to see some more people trying this challenge. I think when you comment on ideas and tactics, it could be helpful to add which pack you're playing with as well as any extra mods you added. DW has the Minium Stone to transmute, which isn't available in the MC pack. On the other hand, I don't...

    Turtle Script, would this work?

Looks good, you're missing a few brackets after functions though. Apart from that, it should do what you want it to do, as long as you use only straight trees or prevent them from branching out. You might also want to add some sleep-time to the loop to give the leaves time to decay and collect...

    Flat challenge, anyone?

Have you even tried that? Looking at the settings, it looks a bit better in terms of available ressources (sand!) but every seed I tried spawned me at the bottom of the sea. Kind of "expected" since the game puts you on top of the highest solid block :P But even on peaceful, you drown before...

    Flat challenge, anyone?

The problem being, that you need glass to make one, which is what I'm lacking at the moment. And neither glass or sand can be obtained from any loot chests (blacksmith, TC tower) or trading. It also looks like I won't be able to rely on bees for metals, since all the ore-bees are based on the...

    Flat challenge, anyone?

Yeah, I'm on that already, but there's still the fact that if you want to use your machinery you need to reassemble and power it which is a lot of time and effort. So I think I'll abstain from the nomadic playstyle this time

    Flat challenge, anyone?

Yeah, in vanilla Flatlands, I tend to be nomadic myself, just pick a direction to walk in, raid each village you find and slowly upgrade the equipment. Before starting this, I thought about how it could be accomplished to tech up and there's no way to carry all the necessary stuff around. So I...

    Flat challenge, anyone?

So, a quick update: Tin and Copper can drop from Scrap Boxes, so they are pretty much renewable, Redstone can be traded for with villagers. I got a Thaumcraft shard from a Thaumcraft Villager, but I can't research because I'm missing Ink Sacs. Made a 2 deep pond, but no luck with squid spawning...

    Flat challenge, anyone?

I'm playing on the Mindcrack pack which doesn't have Mystcraft, so it didn't occur to me. I would agree that Mystcraft ages (and any other similar "fully featured" alternate dimensions) would be considered off limits, too. As for UU-Matter, if you can get there, by all means use it. I'm still...

    Compressor + transformer = explosion

A random chance to hit any side of the pipe will (in the long run) even out the amount of items that go in each direction. Sending 5 items through it is not a significant test at all. With the way you set the pipe up, you'd expect 1/3 of the cobble to go to route 2. 5 items going towards route 2...

    Flat challenge, anyone?

So, I really like playing Minecraft (and FTB) with self-imposed limitations. I did stuff like turtle-only mining, energy only by renewable sources etc. One thing I started recently was a Flat challenge for FTB. There's only two rules: no Twilight Forest portals or Mystcraft Ages, since it would...

    Compressor + transformer = explosion

Diamond Pipes will distribute evenly if you have more than one valid destination for an item. You'd have to stagger them though, since you can only have 5 outputs from one Diamond Pipe. Use one Diamond Pipe to split the item flow into two Diamond Pipes and have them output into 4 new pipes each...

Help with getting started with Boilers

The Railcraft Wiki is a great place to look specifics up. The basic gist is, put down one or more fireboxes, put Boiler Tanks above, supply fuel to the firebox and use the produced steam for steampowered Railcraft engines.

Buildcraft quarry efficiency at high speed?

Tried it out in creative. It looked like there's quite a difference in efficiency between 10 and 50 MJ/t. I started several max size quarries, supplied by Redstone Energy Cells outputting varying amounts of MJ. The highest finished about 2/3 of a layer, the lowest one a bit more than one full...

    Teenage Mutant Mining Turtles!

Since we only get one piece of coal to start with, it would be rather evil to start the turtle more than a few blocks above ground. Considering that we'll have to be able to find the tree withing the 80 moves we get from the starting coal. As a small update, I've managed to find the tree...

Fastest Way to Remove 254,016 Water Source Blocks?

Basic BC pumps hooked up to a liquid void pipe would do the job (apart from the last layer) . Water blocks only regenerate if they're touched by two other source blocks (common knowledge) and have a block undernath them (not so common knowledge). This is also the reason why lakes and oceans...

    Teenage Mutant Mining Turtles!

There was a similar challenge a while ago, i believe on the CC Forums. It had you start without any fuel, but directly next to a tree. That one was a lot harder, too, giving you a chunkloader above the tree you started at and limiting you to the area that's loaded by that chunkloader. If I...

    Begineer turtle question

I would suggest the following: while true do if turtle.attack() then for s=1,16 do turtle.select(s) turtle.dropDown() end turtle.select(1) end sleep(1) end This will try to attack, if the attack is successful, it will go through all slots (you might have killed a mob which dropped more than...
