If memory serves not all logs work with the construction block. I always keep Oak logs around for all the log combines (i use fir for everything unless it specifically does not work).

In the Spirit world there are trees randomly around. Once you have been there abit, you should be able to get wood, then just find flint to make a flint axe like normal. Then you can craft the crafting table.
