this pack is design to not be able to run without the mods pre defined by the author of the modpack. therefor nope there's no way to run this pack disabling mods. you can add mods that don't affect changes in the game example fastcraft , optifine , etc. everything else will throw you an error

more efficient is 6 planks. burn time on coal or charcoal is 1600/t planks is 300 each . a log = 6 with sawmill. only use this method if you have a sawmill made already. if not the is more efficient to put coal or charcoal
