I've seen zero confused linux users in IRC or in FTB's support channel in Curse. Do you have examples? Usually those people who comes to ask for old launcher just hates Curse. Less than 10% have reasons like wanting to play old pack or play with linux.

Known issue. Does not work. Use legacy launcher or import pack to MMC.

GPU driver crash: hard/impossible to fix. You could try update/downgrad4/reinstall GPU drivers or use discrete GPU if available.
