We don't want to end up playing chess with only a single pawn and no other pieces on the board. It's not interactive if we can only make one correct move.

More mods need to add challenges like that, like IC2 and Botania and Witchery do, making problems that require unique solutions. That's where the fun of the game lies, not in mindlessly duplicating resources with Thermal Expansion and Mekanism and the like.

It makes it interactive. The solution is different every time, and you have to think about it. That's the fun part of the game, and I feel that's what Modded Minecraft is losing sight of.

IC2's EU is by far my favorite power system (I'm sure I'd enjoy Reika's, but that's too complicated for me to get into while I'm losing interest in Minecraft), as it really forces you to consider what you are doing. You need to make use of transformers to keep stuff from exploding, and at the...

There are parts of Modded Minecraft that I enjoy, though. The simplest example is RF: your goal of getting machines to make getting machines easier is limited by your power output and throughput. RF doesn't require much effort, but it does force you to think about how you're setting things up.

There are some people that find playing those decks enjoyable, but I just don't. It's not interactive - there's no thinking going on. You're just mindlessly playing cards for the enjoyment of winning.

The origins of this lie in Vanilla, where your goal is: mine resources so you can get tools to mine better. It's a dulled down version of what we've got in Modded, simplified by substantially less crafting.

At some point someone will make a mod that abolishes the need to craft all together. Choose an item, and your AE system will craft it. No processors necessary. The lack of such a crafting device is the only thing keeping Minecraft out of the mindless and endless grind that it is already too far...

Like, when you first get into the game, you set up a generator and a pulveriser as your first priorities. Bam, you did this just so you could grind for resources better. Down the line, you automate it, make a quarry so you only have to deal with the crafting part of the grind.

I tried to pop back in to Minecraft afterward, and work on the modpack I was to make at the time, when I realized that it was the same. Modded Minecraft (and vanilla itself, to an extent), is just "farm resources so you can spend a week crafting a thing so you can get resources better." It's an...

Sure, there were some entertaining tangents to be had in the game, but for the most part, it was grind for xp and gold and items. Sometimes a boss or an enemy would have a few twists thrown in that made them difficult to overcome (which I did actually like, in addition to the killer story), but...

also i hate modded minecraft. It's a realization that sprung from trying World Of Warcraft. I know I didn't get too deep into it, but from what I played, most of it was grind. It was: grind some daily quests for gold to get better items for a dungeon, do the dungeon, and get better items to do...
