yeah ive seen them "in-game" commands, what i would like is to be able to access the config file and set it up outside of game, cos it wont let me do anything to a player that isnt online and i dont sit online 24/7 waiting for them to log in

I am trying to learn this too, it was so much easier when you could just edit the .cfg file but everything i find seems to suggest in game commands to get this working :O

When you get the launcher to the point where it asks for login details, change the filter to show servers :D If you have difficulty downloading it, try changing the version from recommended to 4 (via the edit mod pack button)

As i posted earlier i fixed the not able to download mindcrack by changing the version from recommended to 4 it then downloaded fine after hours of trying it before.
