I am attempting to do some creative mode testing and can not for the life of me figure out how to get this to work.

I am attempting to setup a active cooled reactor from big reactors to produce steam that is piped in via GT pipes into a railcraft tank. Then take the steam from the GT tank and pipe it with GT pipes to a railcraft steam turbine.

Before I can even test energy storage options from it I am running into problems piping the steam out of the railcraft iron tank. I have attempted to attach a (MV) pump to the cover of the tank and used the screwdriver to ensure it was in export mode with no success. Have I overlooked something?

(I know GT pipes are friendly with the setup since I bypassed the iron fluid tank and piped directly between the two units with success though output was a puny 2% XD)

On a separate note is there any effective way to acquire vast volumes of water or infinite water aside from Railcraft Water tanks?

Thank you in advance for any help provided.

For infinite water, yes, Ender IO reservoirs, as Jason stated.
For the RC tanks output I ended up using Ender IO fluid conduits (take note that the first tier is weird with going up - they are influenced by gravity). Also, valves put under the RC tank output automatically.
Make sure you take into consideration output speed and conduct speed, and the requierment of the turbine.
Why would you use a RC turbine when you have GT turbines?

PS: Ha! 100 pages. Woohoo!

Anyone else having issues with 2.0.9? Launcher only seems to be downloading half of the mods on a fresh install (everything up to minetweaker), and launching it just goes to unmodded 1.7.10. Is something on my end being wonky maybe? I've done force update and deleted the Infitech2 folder a few times and tried to redownload but I get the same results.

got the same problem. minetweak is the last one. than it stops
i blame jason ^^

Also because of this happening i will be changing the way I will push out the new versions. Will pretty much do the same as Official FTB packs are doing it. Recommended version will be kept the older one and after few days the new will get pushed to recommended.

Example:
I will release 2.1.0 version. The launcher will still have the recommended version before (2.0.10 for example), ppl will be able to select the 2.1.0 version from the dropdown list. After few days if everything will go well, the 2.1.0 will get promoted to recommended.

Thanks, @Jason McRay .

Re: 2.0.9 FTB problems

I've done private packs and have shared those with just a few people. Even for such a relatively small audience, it's a huge amount of work, much more than it would seem on the surface. So, I can appreciate how difficult it is for everything to be perfectly in sync. and how easy it is for 1 link in the chain to not work perfectly and the whole chain fail.

So, many thanks for your time, energy, and patience :)

Huzzah, big reactors! I just did my first live one yesterday. Lots of fun!

So, first: When you put a pump as a cover on a pipe to extract liquid from a tank, that cover is IMPORTING liquid. So use Import mode. Remember that the "import/export" instruction is for the object its attached to, in this case the pipe. You can use a portable scanner to check the status of the pipe and confirm that there's liquid inside (or, uh, touch the pipe in this case). Watch videos on tricks to reduce "sloshing" (there's a cover for that but its name escapes me). IDEALLY you will use the absolute minimum piping possible.

Second: the tank will export automatically (pushing) if the pipes are on the bottom of the tank. And as you probably know, you just cannot export at all above the first interior level of the tank.

Third: any steam you pump into the BT turbine will convert 1:1 back into water. Make sure you export water from that turbine back into your system if you're having water problems. (And as Jason mentioned, the Reservoir is your friend for creating water). Note that the RC turbine also exports water, but a pittance: something like only 5%. This is so useless most people don't know it exists.

Last note on piping: A big turbine can consume 2000mb/t of steam. My current one consumes around 1400mb. If you're using ender fluid conduits (which can extract 200mb and move 800mb), you'd need (in my case) at least two ender conduits coming from your tank, with >= 7 extraction points total between them, directed into two fluid ports on the turbine. (My turbine is connected directly to my reactor so its not an issue for me, but your steam is likely charcoal/boiler sourced)

Thank you in advance for any help provided.

On the Dev server (v2.0.5 or something) I had about 20 enderIO reservoirs to keep the damn thing doing with water. It's a water eating machine unless your using a closed loop circuit and the BR turbine that goes with the reactor, then pump the water from the steam back into the reactor (closed loop) like @Pyure has just done on the public server.

With using a RC turbine it's not a closed loop system so your losing all that steam/water so it needs to be replaced. I ran into the same issues on the dev server.

If you want to go about this method though and use a RC or even GT turbine, place an iron tank (and an iron tank valve) directly next to the output valve of the reactor. Any steam output will use this tank as a buffer. This will bypass the limitations of any pipes or conduits, and trust me it can completely overwhelm them meaning your just burning fuel for the sake of it.

You can then use conduits for supplying the steam where you need it while not worrying too much about supply. You can use this method with build craft gates to turn the reactor on and off automatically but I'll let you tinker with that ;)

IMHO if not much has changed your biggest issue will be the water supply, good luck!

You beat me to it, I am suppose to be working though ;) but yeah, what we both said should help massively from the sounds of it.

Does anyone have idea why InfiTech launches vanilla minecraft without any mods? Happens only for this modpack, FTB Ressurection launches properly with mods. I tried complete re-download (deleted original InfiTech folder) incase there was some version mash-up but it didn't help. Console log is below but it looks like it just skipped loading mods completely.

Something to do with the way it's downloaded and FTB store the files in the repository, @Jason_McRay, any input?

Does anyone have idea why InfiTech launches vanilla minecraft without any mods? Happens only for this modpack, FTB Ressurection launches properly with mods. I tried complete re-download (deleted original InfiTech folder) incase there was some version mash-up but it didn't help. Console log is below but it looks like it just skipped loading mods completely.
Saryy can you clarify which version you're trying to run?

You beat me to it, I am suppose to be working though ;) but yeah, what we both said should help massively from the sounds of it.

Btw, you asked me to let you know when my setup was complete. Its complete.

The closed loop is "hidden", because its in the joined walls between the reactor and the turbine, but it works 100%. I have only 5 reservoirs, and I doubt I need all of them.

Neat stats:
  • Throttled to 90% rods-closed, I'm still outputting around 1300mb/t.
  • The design gets more efficient as you throttle it less (unlike many designs whose sweet-spot might be 70-80% closed)
  • As I get more cyanite, I can add more turbines. Throttled only 15% (sweet-spot for this reactor), I can run 5-6 turbines.
  • Each turbine produces 5300 RF/T with gold coils. Could get way more with Ludicrite I imagine.
  • You can see the design I used at http://br.sidoh.org/#reactor-design...G3O3G5X6GXGXGX6G5X6GXGXGX6G5X3G3O5G6O5G6O5G3O
  • I'll likely switch the 20 blocks surrounding the fuel-rod square with Diamond blocks to improve efficiency a bit more. But that's a lot of diamonds!
  • Edit: I'm currently converting all this power to eu via Galacticraft "Energy Storage Clusters" at a rate of 4RF=1EU. Well not all of it; need more storage clusters :p

lets just put this in here from the upcomming 2.0.9 version changelog:
- Hopefully finally fixed too many Mushroom biome issue. Also lowered the Thaumcraft biome gen due to Mushroom biome fix

Will this affect current worlds? I don't want to end up with biome generation seams all over my landscape. If so what do I need to do to prevent this from happening?

Before I can even test energy storage options from it I am running into problems piping the steam out of the railcraft iron tank. I have attempted to attach a (MV) pump to the cover of the tank and used the screwdriver to ensure it was in export mode with no success. Have I overlooked something?

Railcraft tanks don't have "covers". Assuming you meant valve, is it placed on the bottom two layers of the tank? You can only extract from railcraft tanks within the bottom two layers.

@Oracle To add to what @Batch2 said, the bottom face of an RC tank will push fluids out. You don't need to pull/pump out. You can connect a GT pipe or any other fluid pipe (ex. BC, eIO, etc.,.) to the bottom layer directly with no pump, redstone signal, etc.,. Just connect directly.

Hmm havent touched galacticraft yet but but didnt know we could convert rf to eu with it :). Does seem kinda off tough since the pneumaticraft conversion is @ 8:1 or does it cost alot more then the pneumaticraft method?

I've actually spent the last 45 minutes trying to straighten this all out.

In terms of pure resources, costwise they're not totally different. Energy Storage Clusters require stacks of tin and industrial TNT to make, and a considerable amount of steel. You need to be enough into the GT chain to have advanced circuit boards and an implosion compressor running (so MV tech I believe.) You do not require any GC tech at all.

The pneumaticcraft route also costs a lot of resources, but it has further complications:
1) You need to progress well into the PC tech tree
2) The system needs to be "primed". Specifically, you need to invest a lot of power (ex, hundreds of thousands of RF) to pressurize the system before it does any converting at all.
3) The setup can blow up without safety instracture
4) It takes up more space (multiple blocks + safety infrastructure) (depending on how much RF you're converting, see * below.)
5) You need a bunch of PC-specific machines (the GC version requires GT machines you probably already have)

* On the other hand, the PC setup can be upgraded to handle more throughput (speed upgrades), whereas each energy storage cluster can only convert ~277eu/t at a time.

I'm not sure there's a super easy fix for this other than leaving it as is or ripping out the block completely. The problem is, while the energy ratios for this mod are configurable, its a forced bidirectional ratio. Specifically:
1) You convert RF->GC both directions at 1.6
2) You convert EU->GC both directions at 6.55737

So if you have 1000RF, you convert it to (GC)gJ as 1000*1.6=1600gJ.
You then convert 1600gJ to EU as 1600/6.55737=244EU (approximate 4.1:1 ratio)

Pneumaticcraft is way more confusing but a lot more flexible. It has similar ratios pre-built into the system, but you define how efficiently the machines use them. So 4:1 is build hard-coded as the RF:EU ratio, but we have the machines set to (I believe) 80% efficiency, so when we convert RF->air, we may be spending 6 RF instead of 4 for a given amount of compressed air. When we convert air to EU, we may be getting 0.8 EU instead of 1 EU. (These numbers are made-up in my head btw, I don't have the configs in front of me)

Ultimately you're able to create a "lossy" system in PneumaticCraft (and we did) so that you can't flip energy back and forth continuously.

Ok, so what's the problem? If we adjust the galacticraft ratio so that you need 10 RF to get 1 EU instead of 4 RF to get 1 EU, that ratio now works in reverse too. You could convert 1 EU into 10RF instead of 1EU into 4RF. It gets worse: because we have multiple conversion mechanisms, you could convert 1 EU into 10 RF via GC, and then convert 10 RF into 1.5 EU (or whatever) via PC. Infinite power loop! Jason loves those.

I suspect we can already do this in reverse because you can get 7RF from 1EU via PC iirc (but at least we can fix this one easily)

tl;dr, I'm not smurt enough for math.

You did do enough math there xD. Thnx anyway at least now i understand this ratio. Now i also understand why its so hard to balance everything in a modpack hmm.

Btw back to the math thing. You know what would be a great addition to gregtech? A ingame Calculator! Maybe even one that uses recipes to check how much plates or so you need for a certain recipe (would be harder to implement). I have 2 monitors and whenever i play mc in windowed mode i get this wierd lag (no fps drops but its behaving very heavy and stuttery)when watching a LP on my second monitor. Switching to fullscreen mode fixes this but alt tabbing takes a few seconds for some wierd reason. Normally i can alt tab in any game in like 100 ms. This makes using the windows calculator alot more annoying xD.
