You can use generators to power it if there is an extra utilities energy transfer node/Thermal Expansion conduit/Ender IO conduit/Universal cable in between the two.

Do I need to use engines to power it? I can't hook it up to generators in any way can I?
Generators as in IC2 Generators? If so, like @Wagon153 said, yeah, one can convert power from IC2 to Forestry(that is, EU to MJ) with all of those.
Calling it a aboretum though, makes me wonder, what pack you're using(and what version of Minecraft). Because for a long time now we've had Multifarms.

Well I actually meant Extra Utils Generators. But you can convert EU to MJ with the electric engine that is also in forestry.

Im using ultimate 1.1.2
I wanna set up a tree farm and not have to worry about powering it.. but then I gotta work out the hummus factor too haha

Ah, well in that case use a electrical engine from forestry to power your arboretum. Simply hook it up to the farm directly and throw down the generator right behind the engine.

So I currently have a geothermal farm using the nether, so what would I use to connect the generator to the engine? like what cables and what not.[DOUBLEPOST=1405742834][/DOUBLEPOST]If anything, is there a better self sustained farm to get wood ?

Any kind of cable will do. The electric engine isn't picky about the current or voltage. You could also try the Minefactory reloaded planter/harvester combo. Will take any kind of power(and yes it is in the pack. I just checked the wiki)

Much much simpler solution then would to use a Magmatic Engine then and use the lava you already got. The Magmatic engine will produce more MJ than the Arboreatum+logger really needs, but it is much more efficient than the Geothermal generators when using lava.

As far as I can tell in the last 100-odd builds of IC2-EXP, the only things that care about energy are the cables themselves. Machines won't explode if you over-volt them. Wait, that's one of the 1.4.7 packs? Oh nevermind. Stuff explodes, be VERY careful about cables!

My suggestion would be MineFactory Reloaded or Steve's Carts. Forestry when it switched to Multifarms ceased to be relevant as a farming mod for me. I've seen lots of arguments on both sides of the fence, but I preferred the old style of farm... which you still have access to! The major issue with the forestry single-block farms is their lack of fertilization. Both MFR and Steve's Carts can do this. My big gripe with the MultiFarms is the apatite requirement. Also it's like Sengir made them bigger and require more resources Because Sengir Felt Like It. There are seemingly no benefits to the change, just drawbacks.

(On a tangential note: Whoa! XyCraft... I haven't seen that in ages! I downloaded the pack to check versions and such, and noticed Soaryn's mod... blast from the past!)

Um, not for 1.5 AFAIK, unless you have a industructable tool that can clear Twilight Forest Darkwoods Biomes in a single cut, like RotaryCraft and the Bedrock Axe can.[DOUBLEPOST=1405750480][/DOUBLEPOST]

Spoken like someone who has never actually bothered using the Multifarms.
My big gripe is that understanding how to construct a Multifarm shouldn't require looking it up online when I'm playing in game.

I read "I'm in version 1.2". I checked for necro, seems okay....

The easier way to convert EU into MJ is through an electrical engine. It isn't nearly as efficient, but it's about all you can do.

If you are using lava, you could always make magmatic engines (I dunno if they're in your pack), which use lava to produce MJ.

I would strongly suggest eventually playing the newer packs. That way when you watch all the current media, you can keep yourself relatively updated. I myself keep behind about one version, just so I can see everybody else's stuff first, and go from there.

Actually believe the Electrical engine upgraded with the "-1 EU" circuit board is exactly on the "standard" conversion rate between MJ and EU: 2MJ=5EU. At least this has been what most other mods have been using.

Reading this thread was really fun trying to shift my brain from the current mod scene, and seeing others struggling to do the same.

I think I might start a new world like that. Its so different its almost new again.
