Nothing sexual here, but it's actually an item.

How does it work? Does it produce light in the entirety of it's quoted mob-fucking area? I am trying to preserve the natural beauty of the area, but I also want to reduce mob spawns in the general vicinity to a minimum, such that my spawner would be more efficient.

Thus, this item intrigues me, but I don't want to ruin the natural lighting, etc.

It prevents spawns within its area (radius of 32 I think). The torch itself gives off some light, but that's it.

Excellent. Most dubious. Does there need to be LoS, or is it just a straight 64 block radius. i.e. can I throw one underground and assume that all caves will become mob-fucked?

Who needs a magnum torch when I can have a Well of Suffering floating in the sky? :P

The magnum torch prevents mob spawning in a sphere with a radius of 64 horizontally and 16 vertically (so horizontal diameter 128 and vertical diameter 32).

This is an ellipse, not a sphere :p
More specific a Spheroid due to two of the diameters being equal :p

Also bear in mind that in earlier versions(1.5.2 versions I think) the radius was only 32 blocks and also worked through all Y-levels I think. Was some confusion about the actual radius for a while.

Mobs can still spawn on cursed earth or from vanilla spawners and MFR autospawners, if you're interested in these mechanics.

Are you guys sure about the 16 blocks vertical? It's not easy to tell, but my gut feeling tells me there'd be a lot of mob spawns in my base if that was true.

That is what has been reported by the author if I recall. But not sure myself it it might not be 32 from experience.
