LP doesn't take stacks of quartz, but can take more space easily. It's more energy efficient and more flexible, but for large bases transport is slower and more laggy. Also, one of my favorite features, LP calculates how much of everything it needs before starting crafting, whereas AE only sends stuff to process when it hits it. For example: say I request a solar panel, and I have 2 silicon cells already. AE would send the cells to the blast furnace, wait for them to finish, and then send more sand to the electrolyzer. LP would see that it needs more cells, and then send sand to the electrolyzer and the cells to the blast furnace, effectively shaving off time.

LP has been much more highly optimized to reduce most if not all lag issues.
I didn't mean FPS or server lag, I meant that the pipes take a second to begin doing stuff, and then you have to wait for the items to go through the pipes. Overall not a very big deal, but still a bit annoying.
Hmmm, I saw a video on LogPipes. They're pretty awesome, though when you have an AE system it's hard to justify using log pipes. They aren't that cheap, energy wise. Chipsets are energy expensive, hola. I like the concept, but I already see some limits.
What can you do, aside from autocrafting/sorting obviously. I guess you could manage your factory using log pipes but, AE is just so much faster.

I'm running into a block with my vanilla ender chest. I swear I had it working like I said in my last world, but I deleted it after the GT debacle. Now, I can't replicate that specific functionality. I'm going to stop banging my head against a wall over it right now and just put up the rest of the build. It isn't even that big of a deal. The only issue is a little bit of convenience.

Both can stand alone as strong systems, but integrate together to make an amazingly versatile item management suite. For some of the most elementary integration:

LP is actually cheaper energy wise. There is no constant draw. LP also does auto-processing much more efficiently. Many people also still prefer using chests for storage rather than AE which LP excels at. They can also be used in tandum by putting storage buses on the chests as well.
Also, chests don't need power to be used >.<
If a creeper breaks your power network, with LP providers on a chest, now you can actually access your items to repair it instead of having to go collecting resources for an ME chest and some stirling engines.
Hmm reminds me. I was thinking of keeping a chest filled with a couple full laptronic energy packs. That would be my work around. I also don't keep my shit in vulnerable locations. You guys are aware that you have the ability to 100% control your surroundings...
Power networks should also be redundant. I have a billion or so EU stored as lava, another billion or so in MFSUs and a near infinite amount in biofuel waiting to be converted into lava. A small, but effective solar array, etc...
Though interestingly enough, If you add a parallel loop to the line that feeds energy to your ME controller, with an EU detector, you can create a backup, automated energy system. When the energy supply is cut off, so will the signal from the EU detector. Use that to trip the activation of some backup. I have 2.3k methane cells sitting around doing nothing. I could throw all those into a small tank connected to an array of gas turbines. CC as the in between controller (I prefer the absolute control, rather than pure RS wiring), and you've got yourself a pretty redundant system.

Oh man, I'm actually really stoked that Logistics Pipes finally made its way to FTB. AE is incredibly powerful, that's for sure. But I will still use both, because AE is severely lacking in some areas, mainly item management.
I plan on setting up a laser factory with several tables making various gates and parts that otherwise would take quite some time to wait for if I were to request them from the autocrafting computer. Problem is supplying the tables with the parts I need for each product. Simply exporting the items directly from the main AE network would only serve to fill the inventory of the table with one component (Maybe two, if lucky). I'd need to set up a seperate AE network for EACH table to ensure that they only keep, say, a stack of gates in it's inventory, so that there'd be room for other resources, like chipsets. Connecting the table directly to the AE network would probably just fill the entire thing with Gates (Or indeed, use every gate in storage, leaving no gates for other tables that need them in their production line).
With LP, I can use both systems together amazingly well. Simply give LP pipes access to the main AE network, then use supplier pipes to keep a stack of each resource in every table. Simple, clean and effective.
Basically, I'll use AE for storage, automation and general autocrafting, and LP for complex operations and resource management in tandem with the main AE network. With these two together, we can finally do EVERYTHING we could possibly dream of. AE vs LP? Stuff that, I'll GLADLY take both.

Backup systems can be a redundant case of your current energy generating system. Simply keeping an iron tank filled with biofuel could be considered as a backup, as so long as you have the means to convert that energy should you require it.

Yeah, but you never really tackle a problem like energy without thinking about how to make it a continuous system, that's just common sense. Regardless of whether it consumes energy continuously or periodically is besides the point. Creating a backup system allows you to access your AE system, should there be a failure occurring at your main energy source.
It's a counter to the "LP doesn't require energy to access you stuff" and "if your energy generation system fails, you can't access AE".
You could also have a separate AE system connected to an MFSU which consists of the controller, a drive and an access/crafting terminal, but disconnected from the MFSU. It's the same as having a charged MFSU near your ME controller, filled, unattached to the controller, for backup.
I hope that's a little bit more clear, heh. English isn't really my strong suit. I speak math and engineering ^^.

When i started going into 100% proper modding minecraft, back in 1.1 logistics pipes was my first sorting system, so it brings back some nostalgia ^^
Also i really like the whole thing about keeping certain amounts of items in chests, ender chest with a stack of most important materials is incredible!
And last but not least, i dont like the way how AE crafting works, things are very fast for very little space, i think the LP is alot more "fun" and intresting.

Here is link to a video I did on hooking the AE and Logisticspipes togeather. I user both in my let's play. The recipes for Logistics pipes have been made a little cheaper for most things and even checper if you are using circuits instead of gears. Plus AE is more a mid game to later system due to the large amounts of quatrz needed.
Not that I'm a huge fan of AE. But you know you could just keep a few spare ME Chests, Stirling engines, and some fuel in an out of the way safe place just for such an event. At least that is what I did when I had got into AE kept a Emgerancy kit in a ender chest on the other side of my base.
I tried that when I first got into ME, but once my power system got stable, i just put everything away. 2 days later, I run out of helium plasma and I'm stuck again.
