Iron Pick requires 1 Iron Plate 2 iron ingots, 1 hammer , 1 screw driver, and 2 stick...
an iron plate requires a rolling machine
a rolling machine requires pistons
pistons require redstone
red stone requires an iron pick to mine ...
circular dependency .....
So how the F**** is this playable?

You can make plates through using a hammer and two ingots -- the rolling machine is more efficient once you've got the infrastructure, though.

As for playable... you're on GregTech.

Or, if you really feel up to it - lure a "freindly" creeper beside the redstone.

Or go find a witch.

Or go dungeon hunting.

Or use a Frame, place lava dry it method of creating a nether portal, kill wither skeletons, and spawn a wither beside some redstone.
Similar to the creeper method except more aspiration all.

You know.
Or stop.
Hammer Time.

Yeah apparently he thinks any and all metalworks starts with making the metal into plates.

Dude, you use a gregtech Bronze/Refined Iron hammer hammer on 2 ingots to make you one plate untill you get to the point where you can make a plate bender.
It's circular but not a dependency.

Still... It is stupid.

Because Greg makes disabling changes SO easy!
lolnope.
theres so much i want to adjust.
1: iridium ore generation. i want it to be about 1 ore per chunk or two. still rare, but not obscenely so.
2: the tools/armor changes. these are more bearable however. (using GT on unleashed, same issues though)
and i have NO idea how to do it cause the GT configs are. . . lacking.

Actually, his configs are pretty good. I switched everything to EZ-mode myself. Everything you need is in the 'DynamicConfig' file. Start with "# platesneededforarmormadeof" and work your way down changing them all to false. You can't bump up the iridium ore generation as far as I can tell. Otherwise, you can actually change A LOT of things to easy.

Greg's configs are quite... Robust.
However it's one of those traits that are both strength and a weakness.

The fact that it's so configurable is the reason why it's such a pain in the ass to configure. But it is powerful, and I am not surprised a few nerfs have not got an option.

Also, considering the personality of Ol' GregoriousT and his mentality that Minecraft and Ic2 should be HARD and SLOW I am surprised there is a config at all to revert his changes. Judging by things Greg Does and states I am surprised he didn't just flip the players the bird and say "Tough shit! Hard mode or no mode" and not bother with the difficulty config. I mean after all it circumvents the very point of his mod yet he puts in the time to add it, you would be surprised how broken his mod is when you remove the hard modes/ options.

Maybe Greg's not THAT big of a douche. (still pretty big though).

thanks.
whats covered by the armor, tools, and misc secions of that file?
theres too many materials for it to be just the vanilla stuff.

Just the plate usage in those items, at least with those specific topics. It took me awhile to comb through it but I also reversed the Solar Panel change, made easier macerators and a few other things. It has a lot of options, but because it has so many, it might take awhile to go through.

You can also increase the speed of various processes (if you decide it shouldn't take so long for the assembly machine to assemble a circuit for example) in various machines. There used to a be an "easy" config mod for ultimate, but the author decided to stop maintaining it with respect to GT when the packs split. Which is a darn shame because it wouldn't be all that hard to create an "easy" config for the current version of GT so that people that don't like going through the config could just download one. I do happen to like going through configs though and don't have much use for easy settings, sorry guys.

By the way, world generation stuff (such as iridium possibility) is in the GregTech.cfg file under worldgeneration. A value of 100 is 1 ore per chunk, the default is 20, which is 1 in every five chunks. It helps to think of them as percentages. So if you want 3 ore in each chunk, you want a value of 300.

There is now also a super easy joke mode where you can get uu out of dirt and such (but doesn't turn off needing plates).

Blooms. Greg should have made tier 1 a multiblock bloom. Maybe producing 1 steel ingot an hour (real time) out of iron and charcoal.

I would still play gt then, maybe.
