This was a really fun and simple project that I did this weekend, but I wanted to setup an area with a kind of creepy lighting trick, where the lights flickered randomly. I guess it was inspired by cheesy horror movies and Etho's mindcrack LP where his redstone lamps would randomly flicker.
Anyway, with redpower, it's very simple. Make a Timer, a State Cell, and a Randomizer, along with a few lights (I used inverted lamps, but anything will work),some wire and cover strips if you need to separate them.
I set the timer to 20 seconds and pointed it at the back of the state cell, which is set for 5 seconds. The output of the state cell goes to the back (input) of the randomizer. From there, I ran one wire to each of the three lights I wanted to flicker and made sure they were independent with the cover plate strips.
Every 20 seconds, there's a brief bout of flickering. It's awesome. Now I have to come up with a good reason to use the idea again!
What other ideas have you come up with for crazy cool atmospheric effects?
