In an homage to the world's of Tolkien(no ic2 here!) I have put together this modpack to bring back adventure to minecraft. Centered around a magic and low-tech theme, you can choose to become a farming magnate or travel to middle-earth and strive to be a powerful warrior or mage.

There is variety in the overworld as well! With Biome's 'O Plenty and ATG- Alternate Terrain Generation, you will not only have a wide range of lands to visit and explore, but you will see the landscape of minecraft in a way that feels more natural and with Ars Magica and Roguelike Dungeons, the adventuring has just begun!

Still not enough? With MystCraft you can create your own adventure! Not only will you have access to all the overworld biomes and features, but the Lord of the Rings mod allows for it's biomes to be used as well!

So have fun and enjoy the Fantasy world of Middle-Earth!

I broke down and updated the pack again, however with this update (1.4.4) nearly all mod devs have moved to 1.7. This brings to a close the 1.6 cycle and I can assure you (since I seem to repeat this because I can't emphasize enough) that I really think you guys will enjoy the next version, so keep an eye on the pack's website for current info.

The upside is that the 1.7 pack so far is turning out to be even more exciting than 1.6 with many new mods to help you explore and for the builders in you, even more options!

Keep watching for more updates though you are strongly encouraged to visit our packs main website for the most up-to-date info.
I have made every effort to try to balance the mods in this pack against each other to maximize the fun. Also, before anyone asks, Twilight forest will not be added even if they allow public modpacks as it does not go with the feel of the pack, especially as LotR moves forward with their plans.

As of 1.3.1 the modlist I feel is complete. If there happens to be any mods suggested I will take a look, but I feel that the list is long enough now to allow for a wide range of tastes and the adventuring aspect is finally fleshed out. Also, I will now go into a bi-weekly cycle of updates since most mods now are only being updated for bugfixes (with a few exceptions obviously).

I look forward to any input and experiences anyone has with this pack!

Im an enjoying the pack...only problem I am having right now is your pack is made for those with a better computer than mine lol.

Thank you for the feedback! Ya, the terrain gen alone tends to be intensive at times....wait till the update comes out this week!

Ok, so new version is live on the launcher. There has been a change to the download code (the original one was long on purpose as I was not sure whether the pack would be stable when first released and I never changed it before submitting it), I have update the original post but for extra effort, the new code is tolkienadv. The old code will still work, but you will not see any updates using it.

I have also listed the changelog for this version. I will take a minute now to outline my version numbering:

The first digit will be used to identify MC version, right not the pack was released on 1.6.x so is version one, when 1.7.x is released it will be 2 and so on.

The second digit will change anytime I add or remove mods from the pack.

The third digit will be when there are only mod updates but no overall changes to the mod list.

I was wondering if you could include configs for manual addition of Thaumcraft (and it's addons), but I dunno if it's allowed... Because I believe that TC would be a great addition to the pack. Thank you for your time.

I agree, Thaumcraft was actually one of my first choices for this pack, sadly Azanor does not grant public distribution of his mod (Lord knows I tried...I even messaged direwolf in an attempt).

I will be releasing an update next week (waiting on a permission request) with several bug fixes and I will work on the configs...I believe those are allowed to be distributed at least.

On a side note: I have noticed more and more mods are being released for 1.7.x so I will be starting a version 2 of TolkienCraft, but please, be patient as this could still be a couple months out for most of the mods.

If a moderator checks this topic, could you please let me know if adding configs as attachments are allowed?

EDIT: So configs are done already, and will be available in the next update (or here if allowed) and so is Thaumic Tinker. The versions are TC v4.0.5b and Tinker v 2.1-74

Well, to be honest, I am looking over their permissions and license to find out for sure. Last thing I want obviously is to violate their permissions.

Last I heard though was that configs were ok because you still have to visit their site/links to get the mod.

EDIT: Just visited Azanor's site for thaumcraft. Seems he has updated his permissions recently to allow public modpacks without a PM! This is awesome news and means that thaumcraft shall finally be included in TolkienCraft by next update!

Great! Can you make a config for the Twilight Forest mod then? I see that some biome ID things conflict with the LoTR mod though. You might be able to fix that... I was also wondering if it is possible to take out the tech mods without the game crashing, as I'm looking for a more magical world instead of a technical one.

Well, the only truly technical aspects are Thermal Expansion and buildcraft so you can just disable those mods if you don't want to use them (railcraft too). As for twilight forest, there are so many biomes involved with it that it would be difficult to add in since BoP adds like 80 biomes and LotR another 40-50. So the main issue is long term viability. There are only 256 biome ID's available and with BoP, LotR and Minecraft, they take up nearly all of them and since LotR will be adding more going forward there have to still be some ID's left to use to make it work.

Besides, twilight forest doesn't really fit the theme I am shooting for with the pack, though you are welcome to add it in yourself if you wish.

Remember I was going with a LotR feel to the mods in the pack and while it does have a magical bend to it (as is the world of Middle-Earth) that was not really the overall concept (which is why there are the few tech mods there are) because the LotR mod itself has many many more features planned and coming that will all make much more sense to the mods in the pack once they begin to show up.

@Jadedcat's Magic Farm 2 is a much better magic leaning pack or even the Magic World 2 are much better representations of this feel to be honest.

I appreciate the interest in the pack though, and thank you for the feedback!

EDIT: Apparently the license for twilight forest also does not allow this from the way I read it...so even if I wanted to I couldn't. :(

Alright, version 1.3.1 update list is in the OP and should be live this weekend. Many, many changes this time around (as far as updates) and I think the pack should be loads of fun at this point with the variety. I do want to bring up one really main point, The Lord of the Rings mod, while stable, is still very much in development, so any major updates will require you to reset it. This can easily be done by simply deleting the dimension folder in most cases, BUT (and this is a big one) they are still adding new things all the time. I will make every attempt to keep the item id's the same from update to update, but depending on what they add and how much, this may not always be possible so please keep this in mind.

Yeah I saw those, and for the LotR mod I want to wait until it has a bit more textures done, the minions one as far as I can tell was for 1.4.x so would take a lot of work to convert. I am watching them and the others on my list almost daily so I will update the patch as they get done or more added!
