You can also make humus with the ash leftover from running peat engines. So if you are running a selfsustaining peat-farm you'll have enough ash to produce hummus.

cheat and change the config file so you'll never have decay or check on the mystcraft wiki, there is a bunch of stuff on there on how to create stable worlds. There are several rules and conditions that need to be met.

the engines will turn between valid blocks when you right click them... valid blocks in these cases are buildcraft powered machines (can be forestry, thermal expansion, buildcraft, ...) and wooden pipes... Nothing will happen if there isn't a valid block next to the engine.
