Yo guys, not sure if this is a good idea..

Ok, so I like to do bees on the direwolf20 modpack on this server i'm on. I have my steve's carts farm getting apples which then power biogas engines. Those engines lead to the advanced bee machines, however I have the power going into a redstone energy cell, then into the machines. I thought this might be efficient (I'm not sure how, brownie points if you tell me..) although I may be mistaken. Yay or Nay?

If you're wondering about the efficiency of the redstone energy cell usage (as your sentence structure seems to be implying) then technically you are losing some energy when exiting the energy cell - assuming, that is, that you're using redstone energy conduits (in which case your loss will be 5%).

That said, you should use the cell anyway. 5% isn't a big deal, and you'll need the stored up energy in order to keep up with those machines as they're very power hungry. Unless you have a LOT of engines anyway...

Redstone energy cell can't actually output power fast enough to keep up with the most expensive bee machine, nor if you're likely to have more than one of the others running at once.

I had separate energy cell for Bee machines going from my bee base energy production to allow restricted usage of power. It was powered with 2 sets of 15 combustion engines and energy cell (energy cell empty -> run engines, energy cell full -> stop engines), but all bee machines could only get 90 MJ, so my centrifuges and AE systems (one for bee products, one only for storing and easily searching serums) would get enough energy.

Hrm. Apparently I remembered wrong - the Purifier draws 100MJ/t, and a couple of the others draw 50. I thought the Purifier drew 200 and a couple of the others drew 100.

*CLARIFICATION*
So I use redstone energy conduits.. I assumed that they were better than conductive pipes.
I also have conduits run directly into 5 separate cell, and each cell directly touches the bee machine.
[ ] = Cell
{ } = Bee Machine
|| = Redstone energy conduit

{ } { } { } { } { }
[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]
|| || || || ||[DOUBLEPOST=1369164202][/DOUBLEPOST]Bad graph, I hope you get the gist[DOUBLEPOST=1369164274][/DOUBLEPOST]*5 separate cell(s)**

waste of cells. Use 1 (or a group of adjacent) cell(s) and conduits reaching out to the machines.
Sort of, yes. But there are a few advantages.
1) By cutting out the need for energy conduits between the redstone energy cell(s) and the machines, he avoids an additional 5% loss.
2) Each machine has its own reserve of energy, so that excessive use of the purifier (for instance) won't prevent him from using the innoculator or some other machine while his engines struggle to resupply the purifier's energy cell.

That said, my own setup does use conduits in between like you suggested... :rolleyes:

Well "better" depends on what you're most concerned with. As I mentioned, the way you have it saves you a tad in terms of energy efficiency, but it uses up a lot of energy cells. The way Lambert is suggesting (and incidentally the way that mine is set up) is like so:

Same symbols as what you used:
[ ] Cell
{ } Bee Machine
= Redstone energy conduit

==[ ] { } { } { } { }
==[ ]=========
==[ ]=

And add more cells, also in parallel like that, if you're outrunning just two (doubtful unless you have multiple of some of the bee machines).

Posting ASCII graphs to web forums tip, use code blocks.

Code:
{ } { } { } { } { }
[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]

Umm, if you want to be really efficient you should get your energy in 2 redstone cells, so you will have 200 Mj/t total possible, which is able to run 2 of the advanced machines at the same time :)

(With even more, better, max of 4 for max efficiency, you're never going to use more than 350Mj/t)

I personally like to have at least 3 cells as some EB machines use 100mj pt thats a hell of a lot in layman's terms, or the other option I been using with 1.5+ seeing as some EB machines are buggy I have filled cells to drop on a power line to these machines only & removed when not in use, a charging station for cells is atm the most valid option.
