Looks like the functionality of the grate has been replaced by CovertJaguars's new addition to BC, the flood gate:

Now, I do not want ANY hate, flaming, or whatever. I want opinions on the floodgate itself, how well it replaces the grate, and what else you want to see which you believe needs to be added to fully replace RP.

I may lock this thread if anyone disobeys this OP.

I never actually used the grates in RP2, so can't really comment on how well these replace grates, but based on one of DW20's videos where he was saying he'd like to flood someone's house with Ender Resonant using one of these, then I can see it as a wonderful pranking tool.

All liquids are in 1.6, under the new Forge fluid registry. They become placeable by virtue of registering as being in existence.
What default flow characteristics do they get (distance, source creation, direction)? Does the mod that adds them have to provide flow metrics as part of the registration?

I dunno, I'm not a modder ;) I can only tell you what I've seen described by those who are.

But, from what I know of how programming languages work, they probably get the default behavior of water unless they overload/override the relevant method or something. </amateur>

I imagine it is one of two cases:

1) It flows just like water by default, but can be changed.

2) To make a liquid, it is required that you input this data.

I just took a bit of a look at the Fluid API, it looks like you need to specify a material it is like (either lava or water). It then also needs to have viscosity (speed it flows at) and density (speed players move through it) set. All these values seem to be required to register the fluid.

I could be completely wrong though as I'm no modder.

The main reason I am excited about this is that it will make obsidian generators possible without TE, plus it looks cooler.

So what do you guys think about what else needs to be added to mods to fully replace RP?

Is there anything else?

I think we now have all the world gen stuff, the frames, the item sorting and the redstone logic stuff. I even saw a mod the other day that does all the lighting stuff.

Actually I just suddenly remembered something. Giant wind turbines. I never used them but I always thought they looked awesome. And would actually make a lot of sense with MJ power...

I agree, Phil and Belone.

So, we need: sortron, wind turbines, and thermopiles.

I think we also need power to work the same way, as in every blulectric block conducts.
