Is there any particular spawner/soul shard that works best as an XP farm? Also, any good tutorials out there? I'm playing Mindcrack 8.2. I do recall seeing a couple of XP farms in some of the Mindcrackers' videos, but I don't recall ever seeing a tutorial on how it was made. I'm also not sure who it belonged to. I did see DocM77's turtle one that Guude helped him set up. I like AnderZel's skelly one. There was another one, maybe Nebris's? I think it was also a Skelly one. It had a big platform at the top and it dropped down, but not sure how it worked. It also had a lot of glass so you can see what was going on, which I thought was cool.

I've been watching his videos. I like how he explains the mods. There are some differences between his pack and the Mindcrack one, but overall, they're good. I haven't gotten up to an XP farm one, though. Is it in his Season 5 Let's Play?
This is the one where he initially builds the farm (using Blazes).
Here is where he modifies the farm to not just collect Blaze Rods but to also collect experience.
Then in this video, he swaps out the Brain in a Jar for a turtle, which can hold a considerably larger amount of experience. He also makes it so that he uses the experience stored to automatically enchant books, but of course that part is optional. It continues into episode 45 as well FYI.

Also, just to answer the one bit of your post that no one has touched on, Blazes are worth more XP than any other mob (I believe it's exactly double that of most other hostile mobs).
