I need some help with my wisp farm.
I'm playing in Monster 1.1.2.
I'm using a spawner controller to spawn blazes. I have 20 grinders that kill the blazes and produce mob essence.
In the same room I have a MFR auto-spawner with a wisp safari net. The spawner seems to work fine, but the wisps are dying instantly without dropping any ethereal essence.
I don't think the grinders are killing them, because they're not getting any mob essence.
Here's my setup:

I controlled the config files of mfr and wisps are not blacklisted.

So... First off, If the wisps are dying, then the only thing that should be killing them is the grinders. Have you checked all 20 grinders to see if mob essence has been produced? Second, If the grinder is killing the wisp then essence should't "drop" but instead should be picked up by the grinder, if essence isn't one of those player specific drops like TiC red hearts. Third, I assume that the farm works as expected with the blaze, but not with the Wisps? Finally, I don't see any pipes pulling the mob essence out of the grinders, so how are you getting mob essence from the grinders to the auto spawner?
 
redBoss, I'm using 20 grinders because the spawner controller spawns A LOT of blazes.
darkeshrine, I have retrieval nodes.

I closed minecraft and reopened it and it magically started working. (I closed minecraft many times and it didn't solve the problem). I don't know what was happening, I'm sorry. Thanks anyway. :)
 
I believe ethereal essence only drop when killed by a player, or something that kills like a player (autonomous activator)
I noticed this myself in Agrarian Skies... I tried to get ethereal essence by spawning them with a mob spawner and killing them with a grinder, but it did not work

another alternative besides killing wisps manually or destroying nodes is by spawning thaumium villagers, as one of their trades is ethereal essence.
find that thaumium villager, and set the mob spawner to precise mode, then you can use the villager trading post from Extra Utilities to trade with them before dropping them in a smeltery

I don't know about spawning them from a spawner, but I built my mob farm in a magical forest in AS, and ended up with hundreds of ethereal essences from my grinders. No idea if mob spawner spawned versions are any different.

that could be it aswell... though it'll require some testing to know for sure
 
A bit of a necro (a month or so? /shrug) but I have a question about wisp farms.

I found a wisp spawner and snagged it, put it into a nice dark room with a MFR grinder and it works "good" but the grinder can't seem to find/reach all of the wisps.
The ones floating up in the air seem to cause the most issues.
Anyone have any ideas?

Try having them in a 5x5, 3 blocks high room.

The grinder has a range of a 5 block sized cube with it centered on one of the faces, normally people build their grinders flush with the ground, but that's neglecting two blocks of their range vertically
