Ok, I am new to the forums and if I am posting this in the wrong section just tell me. Anyway, I was wondering if these computer specs would run good, what settings I could play at with what fps, and any suggestions on the specs. Just so you know, I have a budget of about $600. Here are the specs--
Operating system - Windows 7 Home Premium 64
Processor - 3rd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3330 quad-core processor [3.0GHz, 6MB Shared Cache]
Memory - 6GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [2 DIMMs]
Hard drive - 1TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive
Graphics card - Integrated Intel(R) HD Graphics [DVI-I & DVI-D, DX 10.1]
Optical drive - SuperMulti DVD Burner

Thanks for any help!

I'm not an expert but I can safely say that adding a separate graphics card will ensure smoother game play. So take that into consideration with your budget. Hopefully the better versed folks can recommend a card.

As redboss said you need a separate graphics card as integrated cards are rubbish for gaming. I use a ATI radeon 6850 myself.

According to this, a slightly higher clocked (but same graphics) Core i5-3550 [3.3Ghz vs 3330's 3.0Ghz] runs Batman Arkham City at a resolution of 1366x768 on medium quality settings at 28 fps.
How that compares to (modded) minecraft though is anyone's guess...

In other words, the graphics core in the Intel chip is roughly equal to a Radeon HD 5450 (discrete) graphics card [~$30USD]. Again, I am leaving conclusions to others.

Unfortunately comparing how well it runs minecraft to running other games will not work because those games are made to use multicore cpu's while minecraft is not. Also the minecraft system requirements here say that if you are using a laptop, but I would say could include desktops as well, with an integrated gfx card the try the demo before you buy the game. The requirements from the mojang site are for vanilla minecraft and not modded.

Actually yes it does, most modern games are to the point where graphics are almost solely on the GPU now, CPU threads have little to do with graphics anymore.

That being said, for some reason, modded Minecraft is tougher on a GPU than other games because of all the CUDA processing done by the mod makers. (at least that's all I can attribute the spike in GPU usage on my server.) and that on board is really rough to run with in general (about the same as getting an Nvidia 410) so any way it goes, you want to get a separate video card. My recommendation would be an Nvidia 660 or 760 if your price minded, this is where the bang/buck ratio seems to drop off. (about $290-$320 USD)

Beware of asking for advise about video cards in general though. Their flame wars can rival those of the CPU wars. :)[DOUBLEPOST=1374027429][/DOUBLEPOST]
I alsways thought minecraft relied more on the processor.
Unfortunately that is not the case. Vanilla is not bad on a video card, but once you start adding mods (especially ones who use native 32bit textures instead of the normal 16-bit ones) it gets a little intensive.

I run on an old'ish Nvidia 260 and I'm ok at first, but when I get some extensive setups going, I can start to get video lag.
