Will an SSD make a difference?

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Title Will an SSD make a difference?

Launcher Type Curse App

Modpack Direwolf20 1.10

Modpack version Latest stable

Have you modified the pack? No

Details of the issue The game hangs frequently, with a lot of audible disk activity during the pauses.

I have C: as a puny 110Gb SSD (±12Gb free), and D: is a 1Tb HDD (±670Gb free).

Minecraft and related files are installed on D: drive. I'm playing DW20's latest modpack.

Question: Is it likely that there will be a worthwhile improvement in performance if I get another SSD, and migrate MC and the modpack onto that?

My rig:
Intel Core i5-4440 @ 3.10GHz
8Gb RAM
GeForce GTX 980 Ti
Acer 2560x1440 @ 144Hz, with G_Sync.

Many thanks.

Money would be better spent on a RAM upgrade. Most of your disk activity is windows page out memory to the HD. 8GB of RAM is awful tight with 1.10.2 mod packs.

Total 16 GB should be ok. And for powerusers increase from 8 GB to 16 GB never hurts.
