I don't understand why the ones in the middle don't grow? This is just a basic Steve's Carts tree farm, all saplings were planted by the modular cart, but it seems only the ones on the edges are growing, and at a very slow rate. This screenshot is after three real time days letting the tree's grow. If I actually run the cart I'm lucky to get a stack of wood in a couple of hours. The roof is made of glass letting sunlight flood in during the day and two wrath lamps keep it lit at night. They have dirt around them and over 20 blocks of head space for growing. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Any help?

Have you tried bonemeal on them? If even that won't grow them, i'd say it was something to do with how close they are to each other, I can't think of any other reason they wouldn't grow.

Are those two black blocks (1st picture) the wrath lamps? I believe that the way Wrath Lamps create light is that they actually "fill the area with light blocks". If this is true, then the "light" that the wrath lamps are creating may be blocking the saplings from growing.

You would be better off either hanging torches, or hanging RP2 lamps over the trees, because they both generate "real light" instead of the "forced light" of wrath lamps.

EDIT: You can actually tell that it's the wrath lamps because the trees that ARE growing, are growing with leaves blocked by the lamps' light. (unless you went through and chopped those leaves off yourself)

The Wrath lamps are your problem. They create invisible blocks in the area that produce light, but those also prevent trees from growing.

Oh yes, Vircomore is correct, wrath lamps create invisible entities to carry thier light over a large area. I almost forgot about that, but you shouldn't put wrath lamps near trees or quarries, as the quarry will try to mine the light entities aswell. DERP on my part for forgetting that.

Bonemeal doesn't work either. I just don't understand why the default configuration for Steve's Carts would be to plant them too close. A buddy has the same setup not too far from my base with the same distance between the tracks and his are growing just fine.[DOUBLEPOST=1358965789][/DOUBLEPOST]

Oh! Didn't know that. If I put one 20 blocks up will it create the same problem?

Yes, if a wrath lamp can light the trees to make them grow, then it is interfering with the growth aswell. If you have a glass roof, just use some torches or RP lamps as Vircomore said, to fill in the gaps.

As far as I understand how wrath lamps worth, they produce a cylinder of light, out to a certain radius across then something silly like 64 blocks up and down.

It might - but an easier solution would be to use a different light source. for example, if you made some redpower2 lamps ("inverted" so they are always on) and then just stick those floating about 6 blocks above your rails - that would probably give enough light for the trees.

You'll probably need more than two, but just space them evenly and put them above the tracks instead of above the saplings. (I haven't tried it myself, but I don't think things above the track will interfere with a treecutter cart)

Or place them in the floor between the sapling, that should keep them safe from the cart and won't get in the way of the trees.

Wrath lamps create more problems than they solve imo, normal lighting is better and error free, there are many different lamp choices within the mods.
