Why won't my alloy smelter work?

I've gotten into GregTech recently on my FTB Ultimate (MC 1.4.7) world. After finally getting around to making an Alloy Smelter and hooking it into my AE system and powering it... it doesn't seem to want to work to make Invar. I do have custom configs, so it may be attributed to that. I looked into its recipes to see if what I want to craft is craftable. It is, but for some reason the maxEnergy in the recipe is halved from what I expected. How am I supposed to get as low as 16EU/t into the thing? More accurately, how do I get my Alloy Smelter to use 32EU/t like it's supposed to? Is there a config for it I'm missing?

Oh boy.

Just feed it 32 eu, it'll work.

It probably doesn't work because of something trivial, check your energy lines, isn't there a gap? Is your batbox/transformer the right way around? Are you feeding it whole ignots?

Gaps are closed. Cable's painted the right color (yellow for lv power on my grid). Batbox is connected directly and pointed correctly at the front of the machine. Transformers up the line are correctly aimed. Batbox is fully charged. And only ingots are going in, not even from the AE system but manually. Ingots are in the appropriate quantity for smelting, and I even tried smelting electrum with the proper materials with no luck. The thing still won't work. I've tried playing with the buttons in the smelter's UI too, but it just won't smelt. The Industrial Centrifuge on the same line of the grid still works.

Please keep the suggestions coming. In the mean time, I'll just continue using my TE Induction Smelter. Kinda makes me think, "Why bother?" I just like solving puzzles sometimes. :)

GregTech machines do not accept power into their front face, because the machiens have the ability to themselves emit power from their front face. Imagine like a chain of TE machines that all auto-output into the next machine in the processing chain. GregTech machines can do something similar, except that in this case you only need to hook one machine up to power and all others should be able to get power transmitted through the machines themselves, provided there is enough input.

Aha! Now it works. Thanks for the info.

My Ind. Centrifuge and Ind. Electrolyzer seem unaffected by facing, however. Neither do my Ind. Blast Furnace and other multi-block machines, but those are just unique. I guess that's what threw me off.

Yes, because those are not "automated machines". They can't auto-output items or power from their front face.

You can recognize any "automated machine" by the three buttons that it has in its GUI, just like the alloy smelter. One button to toggle auto-output. one button to toggle power output, and one button to toggle whether the pair of slots on each input and ouput are to be treated as one or as separate inventories. Also, they often feature a conveyor module somewhere in their recipe.
