Why should I start with beekeeping?

In DW20's pack I've seen pink, orange, and white flowers popping up due to my bees, but no indigo. But I've still collected plenty... hmm I really ought to get around to making a project table :p
Anyone know why the indigo flowers don't appear when pollinating?

If anyone is an extremely lucky bee breeder, you could always go for the diamond bees.

Something else I thought of, would it be possible to make a "mine field", per say, using austere bees?(the ones that explode I believe) I think that would be pretty interesting in SMP.
Not sure how much luck you need versus patience lmao.
I've had the same idea of using bees to keep people out of bases. Maybe energetic bees like the ones that set GenerikB's house on fire. Or tropical bees that poison you.

The problem is that it then encourages people to target your apiaries. None of the bees which produce negative effects are very common (the Jungle bees are the only 'entry level' bees, and they're rather rare). That's a lot of hard work there that they would be very tempted to ruin if it starts screwing with them.

Can't you just make them private? I don't play on a public server so I can't really test it.
My idea was to have the apiary's behind warded stone from tc3 which according the a video joehills put out only you or a mining turtle would be able to break. Through my limited testing the bees will still attack you through walls.

There's something really hilarious about imagining someone poking around my house, and suddenly get attacked BY A SWARM OF EXPLODING BEES. ON FIRE.

Anyway, Forestry actually has a config setting for the indigo flowers- well, not just those:

Under config/forestry, look for apiculture.conf. There's one setting where you can add block IDs to have them registered as flowers.

(Plugins for Forestry also handles this, among other things.)
