Why isn't Factorization compared to TE or IC2?

Something has changed. It used to be enough steam for 0,2 MJ/t per mirror, however now I need 13 mirrors to get 2MJ/t from my hobbyist engine, 12 are not enough. So either the steam boilers got nerfed or something else is going on.

Sounds like the power curve for steam engines got more linear.

Atleast I'm not wrong.
But this makes FZ even worse, since a 1 LP boiler is just so much more easy to do then 12 mirrors.

I still think the opposite is true. 120 silver is really not that much. If you're not using lead for factorization wiring, then it's easy. And it's free MJ. Things that make free MJ are somewhat rare and usually multi-stage builds.

I guess it depends on your situation. If you get lucky with caving 120 silver isn't that much.
But it is just as easy to gather some wood and put it in a chest and forget about it for a while. Sure it's not free, but w/e.
It's redundant to discuss here tho, if you want low but free mj FZ is ok, but not really anything for bigger needs.

120 silver is not that much. i usually have about that much by the end of my second resource gathering run. my first run is always designed to get the smeltery and t2 tool table for TiC. this means that while i could use wood/charcoal as my first base power setup, I'd be out of position to have it automatically feed itself trough farms. everything before this uses the smeltery for ore doubling, so everything is still manual at this point. (manually making several stacks worth of charcoal is something i prefer to avoid. it's tedious)
This solar setup is enough to kick start an MFR treefarm for instance. but until such a farm is up and running i put a big premium for charcoal. strip mining with a hammer uses a LOT of torches. now getting a boiler requires fire charges, and unless you find thaumcraft flowers in the desert. (not likely in a bop heavy world) you need to go to the nether. with the nether being so much more dangerous now than before, it's better to use an alternative to the RC boilers until you have good armor.
This invention definately have it's place imho.
besides. it is good for low levels of intermittent power in all plications where there is no need to keep lots of energy reserve. like running a wheat farm or similar non energy intensive autofarming.

I fed the beast a lot of silver and a lot of iron, this is what I have to show for it.

What are the green things? (in the middle of the 4 setups) They look like something from Power Converters.

I'm currently playing on a world with the main tech mod being Factorization. I have TE installed as well, because of the liquiducts and other things, but I really wanted to do something completely different than what I normally do. Currently not having a whole lot of fun, because of the mirror/solar boiler/solar turbine thing. They're wayyyy expensive early on in the game, when it's needed the most.

Do you have TE or FZ controlling silver spawn? One thing to realize is that FZ spawns a lot, lot, more silver if its in control, but that FTB doesn't let it.

You can easily get two or three stacks of silver ore from a single FZ vein. The only downside is the veins are not as common, but overall you still get more ore from FZ.

I turned up the FZ silver ore gen all the way in the config, and it still wasn't enough for some reason, so I have disabled FZ spawning of silver because it simply wasn't enough. I wasn't finding any anywhere when I created a world testing the conditions of ore gen. So, I enabled TE silver, and turned up the number of ores in each cluster, and it was kept at the default number of clusters (1), which (I think), means 1 vein per chunk, but I could be wrong on that. Anyways, it seemed to be a little better, but mirrors are still pretty expensive early game, and 10 mirrors didn't really produce enough charge. :/
