Why does the YogCraft modpack lag so much?

I recently started playing the YogCraft modpack and I found that for no apparent reason it has massive lag spikes every 5-6 seconds. What should I do to stop this lag?

Details, details, details. Fresh world ? Imported world with lots of stuff build ? Same server ? New/different server ?

Also, client lag, server lag, or both ?

Not to mention: have you played other modpacks before, and how was your performance there?

Or is this the first time your PC encounters more than just vanilla Minecraft?
