Why does my modpack take so long to load?

I have the DW 20 pack with the following mods added:

Advanced Genetics
Agriculture
Atomic Science
Big Reactors
Blood Magic
Defense
Electricraft
Emasher Resource
Ender IO
Engineer's Toolbox
EE3
Extra Cells
ExtraTIC
GasCraft
Gendustry
Gregtech
ICBM
JABBA
Mekanism
Metallurgy
Advanced Solar Panels
Pam's Harvestcraft
Reactorcraft
Rotarycraft



That being said I am certain the reason is Gregtech, but I was wondering what specifically about that mod could be causing the load time to be almost 7-8 minutes, whereas if I remove it the load time is approximately 2-3 minutes.

Any clues as to what can be done, besides removing Gregtech? Cause I really like the mod, and some of it's advanced machines.

gregtech adds a lot of stuff. no way around it.

That I knew, but it practically doubles the load time. I've had more mods added in the past w/o greg and it has loaded faster. Just figured there was something I could do to make it load better/faster, such as optimizing for instance. But all conflicts are resolved.

I'd say this is fairly normal. Most of the modpacks I play have fairly long load times.

This is really the only pack I play that takes a fair bit to load, the others are under 2 minutes usually. It wouldn't be so bad, but when you get those random JAVA crashes, and you gotta wait another 5-6 minutes for it to load kinda blows chunks.

Well gregtech pretty much causing it. And the workaround for it is just to update 1.7 gregtech version I think. Since some said that what causing it to be load slower is the ore dictionary that gregtech do while it loads at least in 1.6.4. Haven't tried gregtech 1.7 just yet.

ee3 is also extremely bad the more mods you have. Pahimar has said he fixed that though. It's from calculating dynamic emc. Currently it calculates every single load. In the future it will calculate it the first load, then save that information. Loads after the first one will be far faster.

It's because every time you load up the game, Gregtech is going through every block and item registered, as well as the entire oredict and maybe even the fluid registry.

you could find out by looking at the log window as it is loading, you usually get a mentioning from the mod as it is loading in each of the 3 init stages
