What's the the difference between a normal Portal Gun and a Potato Gun

It's a portal gun.

With a potato.

I tried sticking a potato onto my vaporizer, I'm dissapointed to say that all it did was cover it in starch and make it heavier.

This is correct. Each player gets one set of portals unique to them.

Both the bacon gun and the potato gun are personal portals. The default, atlas, and p-body guns are shared.

Both raw porkchop and potato guns give you a unique set of portals. The only difference is the potato gun talks to you, and of course potatoes are cool

Was it always like this?

I do like the potato gun, because I enjoyed that game so much, but I always go for the bacon one for the p-body portal. Now I can go for potato and still have p-body (and go near chickens^^).
