What's the Doom Status Effect?

I've watched one of Direwolf20's Let's Play vids of the Season 9 Direwolf20 pack, specifically, the episode where he builds his rainbow generator, and I noticed a brand new status debuff that appeared in the game. When he gets too close to the undead generator while it's running, he gets a new debuff effect called Doom. This made me curious: What exactly is the Doom status effect and what does it do? Also, from what mod does that effect come from?

So it's just like Final Fantasy? That's cool! I've always wanted to see some crazy status effects from that series make an appearance in Minecraft in some way. Personally, I would like to see a few more status ailments like Toad and Mini in a future mod/modpack.
