Ive been watching youtube videos but I haven't found any source that clearly lays out how to make a good turbine. For example how many layers of the solid blocks do you need, how many blades, ect. I'm weary to trust videos from over a year ago as the mods been updated some. I'm playing on direwolf 1.7.1.

You would think there would be a solid wiki somewhere that explains it, but I haven't been able to find anything beyond "you need to have this, this and that to to make it"

You need 80 blades to use the 2000 mb/t steam max. Having more blades than you currently need does not cause any problems. Blades can be extended out from the rotor, but can't be put in the corners. Different materials in the coil use different amounts of steam & output different amounts of power. I saw some numbers in a spreadsheet a while back but haven't been able to find it again lately. Ludecrite is the best material needing 32 blocks (4 layers of 8) to use all the steam & putting out close to 28,000 rf/t at 1800 rpm. Enderium needs more blocks to use all the steam (I don't remember how many) & maxes out around 25,000 rf/t.

I go ahead and build a 80 blade, 32 block coil turbine in a 7x7x16 casing. I start with electrum until I can make ludecrite. 32 blocks of electrum uses 1000 mb/t steam to run at 1800 rpm. I haven't paid attention to the rf output, but it's enough to run my base until I start using an ender quarry.

You can use this spreadsheet to find the correlation between coils, blades and amount of steam to keep it at the optimal RPM ranges:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...TUxOUGxMRlpERWtPMmtGT213bmc&usp=sharing#gid=1
You will want to go for the 1800RPM column simply because it takes the least amount of materials/space to build.
There is no Ludicrite in it however.
