Apparently they had a project to see if they could breed foxes in such a way that they would be better suited as pets and they managed to do so.

but I wouldn't be surprised if it was an accident/there was no way around it because I wouldn't be surprised they wanted to eventually sell foxes and I wouldn't be surprised if red foxes that are red sell better then what they have now
