If I may tack onto this question...

How are people recording these timelapses? Only way I can think of is to run the game on one PC and record on the other with a dummy account? Is there a mod that runs the camera like that?

I'd love to record some time lapses of the things I do in-game, but I'm not buying two accounts and running two PC's...

edit: Found this: https://www.replaymod.com/ which may be what I was looking for.
Edit again: Well, it would be what I was looking for if it worked with mods and 1.7.10...

Default3d by Know2Good appears to contain the ladders. By ladders I mean the vanilla ones on the wall, not the A Frames from Literal Ascension. But it doesn't contain the textures used for the 3D wooden planks, bricks, and cobblestone.

He verified in a post that he is using a gaming rig for recording and a laptop to play. Using two paid accounts. The mod he's using to keyframe the camera movements is Minema. Haha I'd love to achieve this too. A second account would not be too bad of an investment considering his editing software is a monthly subscription.

I figured that'd be the only way. That replaymod thing I found would have been so perfect, though. If I'm seeing that right, it'd just keep track of all your movements and whatnot, then replay it letting you move the camera around as you see fit, at the speeds you would like to set. It'd be a great thing for basically anyone who ever wanted to record their games. I have to assume they just ran into issues with mods or something because intuitively, it seems like it shouldn't really be a problem. They seemed like amateurs on the site based on their forum comments, though.

I would love to record these kinds of time lapses, and I'd even consider picking up a laptop and do it the hard way and all.... but *I* want to use the high end PC for playing, not watching me play! lol.

For time lapses, I think players have been using Minecraft Camera studio, which is no longer being updated as of 1.8 unfortunately. Here you can see it in action (with links in the description).

Haha for sure. I'd want to be on the gaming rig too. Sounds very self sacrificial for the art of the shot, but you can definitely see that already in the quality of his work. I looked into the creation of his camera tracks. I'm thinking he's using this mod. BauerCam. I'm gonna mess with it at home later to see if it creates the same flying effect.

Edit: looks like BauerCam is 1.10.2 compatible!

Well, these camera mods will work just fine for recording still objects at least, and with the highest possible quality. That's something- and I will definitely look into them. But I still feel like that replay-like mod should be totally doable for someone competent (I'm so bitter that I thought I found *IT* only to have it taken away from me, lol)

According to the downloads section of replay it does have a build for 1.10 and development is still ongoing. I wonder how it stick an hour of video into 10mb. Does it not render it into actual video?

Using my magic powers of knowing roughly how everything works just by looking at it for 4 seconds, the way this would have to work is that it takes something like a snapshot of the world as it is when it starts, then saves all of the information the game would normally use to determine which blocks were updated and the location of the players, etc. That's all it'd have to save. Then the mod would reload the world and run the script back exactly as it happened the first time, only you'd have free reign with the camera and time.

Edit: I guess and easier way to put it, imagine like a fake server. This would record all the same stuff that would get sent over the 'net, then replay it all from whatever perspective you want.

And if that's not how they did it, it's how someone else who can do the coding should do it, because it would allow anyone on any single or multi player game to go back and record hours of whatever footage they wanted with the best possible quality at 60 FPS from any camera angle ever. Not to mention the idea that one could reasonably set it to record literally everything they've ever done in minecraft ever without any lag or crazy HDD requirements, with not only zero quality loss, but in fact dramatically improved quality regardless of PC specs.

But, the version they have doesn't work with most mods, and there isn't and never will be 1.7.10 support.
