since im quite new to modding, the communiuty that follows and my knoledge is limited i ask yous..

What modds do i disable to avoid my inventory getting spammed with stuff i dont need?

i tried to disable thaumcraft but still i have a lot ores that i dont comprehend..

im refering mostly to the ores that glows in the dark and can be found al over the place making other ores harder to find..

spent to hours caving and just found 24 tin ores but more than 4 stacks of those black white blue and green crystaline ore blocks .. with thaumcraft disabled..

im sorry for not giving name but i deleted the world in rage.. i maybe could name then in a edit..or reply.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
Thats from XYcraft (also called Uselesscraft)- there's no real use for the crystals yet, apart from making pretty blocks.

Re-enable Thaumcraft, the crystals aren't as common and TC has some really neat features.

Tin and copper generate at different heights (like y30ish and y45+), so caving at diamond level wont give you much of either.

The way the game is setup it does not matter how many ore types are spawned into the world as they do not effect one another. So their will always be the same amount of each ore type in the world no matter how many mods are installed that add ores. As for the the glowing ores they are from Xycraft and are mostly useless currently beyond the benefits they have as building blocks. However once the Xycraft mod is finished they will be come very valuable so it is worth stock piling them or just ignoring them till later in your mines.

In short no matter how many mods are installed and generating ores you will always find the same amount of tin. Which means the tactic of disabling mods to try and increase it is pointless. A better alternative is to edit the thermal expansion config file to adjust the ore spawns to your liking. Also note that currently tin only spawns between Y 20 to Y 50 and a lot of the other ores have specific heights to find them. Since the FTB devs want to force people to mine at mutable levels instead of only mining at diamond level.

Actually each mod has their own respective gen for ores ect... for those who play the mods individually. The option to enable/disable ore gen is found in the config files.
So if you open up the IC2 and Redpower configs and enable tin, new chunks/ages/worlds will contain 3x as much tin ore
- note these are 'different' ores, and wont stack together.

Disabling mods will most likely lower ore gen, as any blocks/items belonging to that mod will be replaced with air.
-If you switch off Thermal Expansion without enabling a different ore gen, your worlds will be completely void of tin. Any pre-generated chunks loaded like this will be permanently stripped of tin. Re-enabling the T.E. will cause tin to generate only in new chunks/ages/worlds. Enabling a different tin generation will only effect new chunks/ages/worlds.
Generally it's best to leave mods enabled, otherwise you may run into a few issues playing SMP, and should you want to try a mod or XYcraft ever become useful you'll regret lacking the ores.
General rule of thumb for mining- if it glows- it blows, (don't mine it).

ok ok I tell a lie- XYcraft crystals have a use- you can recycle them into scrap.

Danidas, you aren't exactly right. Ore generation in minecraft (and I think in most if not all mods) is done by first choosing where cluster will spawn and then it tries to spawn ores in this place (dirt and gravel are also ores). From vanilla blocks ore can only spawn in place of stone, other places are skipped. So if for example Xyveeeeryusefulores spawn before TE ores, then there will be a bit less TE ores. With so many different ores it can make noticeable difference, specially for ones which spawn last.

I seem to recall hearing in either one of Direwolf20's LP vids or one of Slowpokes livestreams that some if not all of the crafted Xycraft blocks do not allow mobs to spawn on them, tho I could be wrong. If true that makes Xycraft a little more useful in construction to control mob spawns. Say for example you laid Xycraft blocks as flooring in your base, then you could actually shut off the lights if you wanted to. Plus while the blocks don't give off light they do look cool in the dark since they glow.

Edit: Will need to check the WIKI to confirm my info.

I've heard the same thing about the Xy blocks, that none of them allow mob spawning.

Not sure if it is all of them but I know certain types will block mob spawns while not giving off light and other types are very explosive resistant.
