Hi!

I am planing to start playing feed the beast with my 2 cousins and 2 friends, but there is one problem. The laptops they got are not "good" i think they got 2 gb of ram and 1,7 ghz dual core. So i wonder, what modpack can we use to play to give them the best ftb experience?

me myself is going to host the server and play on the same pc. I got 8gb of 1333 ram and a 3.3ghz quadcore. And i want the experience to be as lag free as possible.

So what do you guys recommend for modpack? I would like to keep buildcraft and industrialcraft

Welcome. I'd wait for the lite mod pack that is coming soon (tm). Or use one of the 1.5 or 1.4 packs. If you want to use 1.6.4 then you will probably have to disable a lot of the mods as the newer packs have a lot of mods and the 32bit version of java's 1GB limit has a hard time keeping up.

While the Horizons pack still has alot of mods in it, it feels a lot lighter then the previous packs (unleashed for example) so you might want to try it :)

Edit: meh, didn't see that last sentence, but Horizons has so many other cool mods :D

From personal experience, even older lappys that can still easily play most modern games, will scream to a stop with a full FTB pack. Your hosting situation will likely help, as well as a thinned down pack. You might be better off making a lighter version of the lite pack, or a custom one with just a few mods. What better way to learn a mod inside and out eh?

I checked that Thaumcraft4, Morph are not good for slower computers or laptops. I had to disable those mods due to big lags.

Also when you make big power factory this also will be laggy - especially with a lot of automation by AE.
For low lags use tesseracts, opaque TE versions of ducts.

For earlier MC versions of packs (1.5.2 or 1.4.7) - for me 1.6.4 increased FPS and modded MC works faster on my old laptop.

For AE you can turn off the fancy cable rendering in the config and that can clear up lag on bigger systems.
