what machines to connect things in a router network?

In your opinion, what's the cheapest and simultaneously performance - friendly ( client and server wise ) machine to connect things in a router network?

I would presume barrels would be (due to only having 1 inventory slot?), filled with a misc item that wont be in the router system.

Generally, the cheapest item would be a furnace. It has a limited number of inventory slots, and is incredibly cheap to make.

The routers only connect trough machines with an inventory and all machines with an inventory have a tile entity associated with the block. Thus, there's no memory efficient way.

I personally use furnaces though. Usually.

Heat vents from AE also act as inventories. If you were up to the challenge, you can use those to make things look fancy!

dont they cause by trying to form a multi block?

I've thought of using a furnace, but dont they cause lots of updates every tick (graphic wise). I'm currently using incinerators, which i can craft quite easily from mfr liqui crafter. Do those things cause a lot of server lag?

Barrels aren't all that efficient due to the item rendering, apparently.
