It's an Infernal Hive. You need a scoop to break it. Judging from how often this comes up, I think Magic Bees needs to come up with a less deceptive texture.

You can kind of see the striations, but they are quite masked by the yellow and netherrack textures.

you are not the first, nor the last doing that. those hives look far too much like an ore.
