I think you're misunderstanding this thread - it's a description of what this area of the forum for, not a description of what this thread is for. "Show it off to the rest of the community" by making a post in this forum, not by replying to this thread.
Yes, this post is badly named and poorly explained. When I opened it, I expected something like "I found this thing, here's a picture, what is it for?", or "This thread is for people to post pictures of things they find when they don't know what they are for".
It was created due to the first thread being a question asking what the forum was for.
