So I know that the FTB is a beta deal.... but to be honest, Im not sure what that means in the real world.

When the actual release happens, what will that mean for me? Will I need to start a new world, will there that much of a difference? Will I need to run around and panic like the mayan calendar thing or y2K??? Should I be stocking up on bacon and cheese whiz???? I just dont know what to do.

I'm just going to regurgitate what I've heard over streams and videos. Basically there will be several versions of the pack which will include as of last I heard: Magic World (already out), Tech pack, Ultimate, and a Direwolf20 pack for his followers. This could change. Anyway, from my understanding, the ultimate pack will be similar to the beta without gregtech and a few additions. Slowpoke has stated this transition should go smoothly as they have already tested this and not encountered major bugs. They do, however, recommend starting a new world to take advantage of many bug fixes and new world gen.

TL;DR It shouldn't break your world. It will add several mods (Thaumcraft, Xycraft, EE3, RP2) and remove gregtech (last I heard).

If it removes greg tech then I'll be adding it back in. xD

@War - You, sir, are doing it right. Slowpoke likes Gregtech and, I believe, is planning on having it in the Tech pack. He does know that there are more than a couple people who don't like one or many aspects of it, so he won't have it in the ultimate by standard but anyone can add it quite easily thanks to the excellent launcher. This way everyone can play exactly how they want.

I believe Greg Tech will still be installed but be disabled by default, so if you do want it, it is still easy to add.

Most people complain about the more expensive recipes, but I like them. The only one I have disabled is the macerator. Yeah, the centrifuge takes FOREVER and it's an advanced machine that only takes 32 eu/t, but the beauty of it is that you can stick a hopper over it and go do something else while it processes (I also have to find a way to automate adding of cells because at the moment, I do that manually when I notice they are low). The world generation makes the nether worth exploring, as well as the overworld as certain ores only generate in certain biomes. I believe there's also an ore in the end but I have yet to get there.

Without Greg Tech, I find myself skipping vanilla armor and going straight for nanosuit since it's really cheap to make. But, with Greg Tech, I actually went through the trouble of making a set of diamond armor and enchanting it :D Kinda feels more like tech expansion rather than a complete skipping of many vanilla mechanics.

Due to the flexibilty of the launcher it would be very easy for the community or the FTB team to release two versions of the Ultimate pack, one with gregtech and one without. Because the launcher is supposed to also allow users to create their own modpacks and publish them I don't think this will be a problem.

I personally don't like gregtech due to the complexity it adds to crafting. Its not so much the challenge I don't like, its the massive amount of recipes to create the same objects. When I open NEI in recipe mode I get like 6 different recipes for a Macerator all cycling through really quickly making it hard to figure out which one I want to use. I do like that it adds some awesome items and adds connections to other mods. Don't get me wrong I like having harder recipes, however I would rather it just be a single recipe that requires harder to obtain items.

There's a lot of reasons to dislike GregTech, but that one is the strangest.

TBH, the item cycling is pretty much the 1 thing I dislike about GT. I love the complexity it adds to the game. I guess my issue is more with NEI than with GT for that. Since I learned that holding Shift stops the cycling, it hasn't bothered me quite as much but I'd rather see multiple pages (like 1 that uses the machine blocks, another for the bronze machines, etc).

My main beefs are GregTech is redundant to other mods' capability, and only adds a self-referential endgame.

In that end, his constant messing with other mods' recipes only serves to only further the forced use of his own mod (requiring Steel for the pretty much required Electric Wrench -- not to mention is nerfing of Forestry bronze).

In short, he doesn't play nice with other mods.

I actually like the cycling recipes. It's the sole example of his mod playing nice with others.

I agree, the cycling recipes are cool, although does anything have a list of the stuff that cycles (machine block, sturdy casing) so that I don't have to try to figure out that with NEI?

Not really.

After a while you start to memorize it. If you're going for substitution, pretty much Iron Vaccuum Tubes from a Thermionic Fabricator are a universal substitution for Advanced Circuits.

A few of the super-high end stuff require Diamond Vacuum Tubes for the substitution, but you'll see the blue color cycle by.

Iron Vacuum Tubes are your friend. 5 Iron, 2 Redstone, and some crappy glass for FOUR Advanced Circuits? Hell yeah.

The major confusing thing with the cycling is that it is NOT CYCLING RECIPES, it is cycling SUBSTITUTIONS. Meaning when it's cycling, if one side is advanced circuit and the other is iron vacuum tube, you can still use 2 vacuum tubes.

I realize that it is just cycling substitutions, but that doesn't change the fact that I just want a simple, easy-to-read list, not that crap that happens in NEI.
