Yeah, stay away from bees. The amount of effort required is at least two magnitudes more than the effort requires to set up a quarry and run it every so often. You'll be swimming in uranium if you do that.

You can even set up a RedPower 2 frame system to allow you to move your quarry and easily place the landmarks. That's what I did on my last world.

But you will be swimming in iridium and uranium if you do bees :D

You know what IC2 crop has huge yields relevant to this conversation? Redwheat. Easier to work up to than bees (although stabilizing an ideal crop is substantially harder).

I just throw the ingredients away, and give myself a mass fab with NEI. In my opinion, the matter fabricator is only for servers with more people on it, so you can't just work together to get a fusion reactor in 2 days or something.
Wouldn't it be easier to just edit the line "B:Massfabricator=false" to "B:Massfabricator=true" in the GT Recipes.cfg file?

I can't seem to find the config files in the Ultimate pack. ._.[DOUBLEPOST=1363116470][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yep, and then make the matter fabricator using mass fabricator for even cheaper uum :).
But the matter fabricator produces less UU than mass fabricator...? o_O

The file you need to change is in the ultimate/minecraft/config/GregTech folder by default.

While the matter fab is configured to produce less uum than the mass fab by default, if you enable the mass fab it will automatically limit the energy cost for the matter fab to be cheaper than the energy cost of the mass fab (to make up for the matter fab being more expensive to build). Also, you can directly adjust the energy cost of the matter fab in the config file (look for the line "I:MatterFabricationRate=16666666" in GregTech.cfg) to be whatever you want; you could presumably set it to make 1 uum per EU if you wanted (I've never tried setting it that low, because it just seems silly to do so).

Edit: I believe the matter fab is limited to at most 1 uum per tick, regardless of the rate setting and energy input, however.

If you want to know how to get radioactive bees, and you don't want to have to ask me all thirty-eight questions needed to get there (counting pre-existing bee-keeping knowledge, otherwise four hundred and seventy-nine questions counting pre-existing MineCraft/FTB knowledge), I would suggest researching into how beekeeping works, and then researching into the genetic lines of bees..

I really, really, really, really hope that those numbers are an estimation and that you didn't actually count :O

They are accurate to within 3.54% in either direction, depending on how you word the answers/questions.
You frighten me :p

In other news, I managed to breed a common/marshy hybrid today, but then lost the common trait after two generations.
YAY, BEES

If you enable both mass fabricator and matter fabricator, matter fabricator eu/uum value will be fixed at 150k per uum as long as the matter fab. value of matter fabricator eu/uum in the config is set higher than 166k (mass fabricator eu/uum value).

Analyze your bees when trying to get specific strains, and this wouldn't of happened(or at least, not as quickly).
Also I find that marshy is a horrible strain due to the requirement of mushrooms and the fact that they aren't cave bees or nocturnal, both of which would at least make them able to survive in more mushroom friendly environments, instead of needing sunlight and mushrooms, a unforgiving mix without Mycelium.
Though you likely are analyzing if you know it's common/marshy. Regardless, bee breeding is not so simple, and one has to not just analyze princesses for the strain you're working towards, but also your drones as they provide DNA as well.

I'm not actually using the Extrabees machines because in the current version they crash my game.
I thought I would try using Marshy to start off with as a challenge, and I now regret every life decision that led me up to this moment.

Basically I got bored of banging my head against a wall, moved to a River biome and cross-bred Meadows and Forest bees :)
