Hey,
I've been playing modded minecraft with my girlfriend for a few years now. Since we can't really afford to rent a real server I always used to run a minecraft server on my computer as well as the client.
Now, my question is: would it be easier on my computer if I hosted the game using LAN instead of running a server in parallel with my client?
Thanks!

I run the server and client on my desktop and haven't really had problems with three simultaneous players including myself.

It would probably also depend on the processing power your PC has available, and it's RAM. For me I ran it on an i7 3770k with 16GB of RAM.

I didn't have any major problems either and I have i5 2500k and 8GB of RAM. Only problem I had was that I was getting a message about server being overloaded for a time, but it seems that a java update fixed it.
I was just wondering if using RAM would reduce the load on my system. Anyway, thanks for the input!

If you have enough memory then running on a local server (even on the same computer) is best as it uses the cpu better (server and client each get their own core).

This is exactly what I wanted to know, thanks!
